So what is the point in this. Back on but must be creating nightmares on the all our utilities fridge and such . Have they got a new contract with all the outlets of appliances as this will send all up the wall. Then we have to buy new. I have had this with some of my appliances so beware

Having these sort of issues will cause problems with your appliances. The thermostat won’t understand the cuts. Let alone the power reductions. This will without a doubt cause problems with your appliances

Our part of Alsancak off 6.35pm for half an hour. As I drive around locally I've seen Kibtek up poles installing assorted sizes of transformers.

I should have kept my big mouth shut. Was woken up at 4am by the generator roaring away, it switched itself off a 4.30. Have no idea how long the cut was for, but I bet the neighbours just loved me.

Went off at 20:30 Tatlisu. Think every area has been hit at different times. It wouldn't be so bad if they would let us know and we could be prepared, instead of keeping quiet or making false promises.

If this is the case and everything fixed why yesterday then did we have 2 power outages for an hour each time. The night time one was terrible. It was so hot

. Does this so called manager know what a power station is. Could he please enlighten me on how he recons the power cuts are over or is he talking about his house. Sure they probably never experienced a power cut. Another proof we are all depending on idiots

Idiots are probably buying 'heavy oil' instead of 'diesel oil'or mixing it by rough traders to maximum profits hence all the sludge. Another reason maybe the oil tankers are not cleaned properly for next load of say, petrol which is of a shocking low quality!

Also having them more often now in Girne. Not only are the power cuts frustrating but also Extend seem to following them as we are without internet most nights now all at the same time. No point in phoning them as they, whoever is left at the desk at night, just reads from a sheet

It was also off in Tatlisu in the afternoon and again during the night.
One excuse trotted out was that there was 50 percent more demand than the same time last year.
So how the hell do they think they’ll be able to supply all these new builds?
Perhaps if they collected all the arrears from the airport, hotels, casinos and government departments they’d have enough money to sort this out. Bit random but they might also actually be able to afford to employ people who know what they’re doing instead of the nephew of Ahmet’s 3 times removed cousin who needed a job.
And they think they should be playing with the big boys on the international stage! Never going to happen.

Didn’t they think as they were connecting 1000 of new properties that the demand was going to go up . Who’s running this company Bill and Ben . This is an absolute disgrace. They want the bill paid the day they process it. You know they just can’t get anything wright. Can’t they see if they invest a bit more than they earn a lot more

gates, Don't you honestly think the Government don't about them. They are the ones responsible for them. 3 cuts in 12 hours plus another this afternoon.

Agree BB, they just don't care or they'd have done something about it long ago. Just heard about an elderly person falling downstairs when power suddenly went off. Could happen to any one of us.
I've got a few battery operated lights inside, plus solar lights outside which I take inside. I keep looking for these rechargeable lights, but never seem to find them.

Alphamike, Erdener homeware, upstairs had screw rechargeable bulbs last time I was there. They were all bright white which is why I didn't buy any. Have you tried the Osram shop opposite Girne new Belideyesi building. Downstairs they have an amazing array of bulbs?

We had 1 power cut yesterday last night but then we did have a 4 hour power cut in early morning. They must have known this was going to happen as i think it was Groucho that talking to an employee told him this summer is going to be bad . That was when we were having the winter ones. So they knew and what did they do about it. The same as normal NOTHING

Many thanks Jane M and Ginge. I'll give those places a look when next down that way if I can't find any in my area.
Know what you mean about bright white Jane, mistakenly put one in the living room....wow and no. Good for the kitchen though.

Forgot to say that I read in one of the local papers that police have been brought in for suspected sabotage as so many things "broke" at the same time.

I said months ago maybe it's the unions trying to bring the government down. So if it's sabotage which we did have before at the sub stations hopefully they deal with the culprits harshly .

If it’s sabotage they should be arrested immediately and charged with sabotag and treason for putting the country’s health at risk and made an example of with a long prison sentence and wages taken from them for the term of their employment. They have endangered life and health. Disgusting

I sometimes think we can learn more about what is happening in the North by reading Cyprus Mail. I know it is biased on a number of subjects, but on other they seem to be pretty accurate. The same for watching Al Jazeera news re the Middle East and Gaza.

you may prejudge or you may do not follow the subject properly..
kibtek union El-SEN claims since many years that it is one of the targets to privatise kibtek and build up a monopoly (eg, turkish company Aksa).
to make that happen, kibtek is not supplied with eg money, to buy eg better fuel, spare parts or to modernise teknecik, cable network, whatever..
from today:
The Chairman of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Institution Employees Union (EL-SEN), Ahmet Tuğcu (the one who was arrested yesterday for 3 hrs) , claimed that the statements that the five machines in Teknecik had been repaired “do not reflect the truth” and reported that only two machines had been fully commissioned.
In a written statement, Tuğcu criticized the Prime Minister’s statements that they had “repaired the five machines in Teknecik” and said, “The workers of Teknecik have been trying to create something out of nothing with superhuman effort since last night. However, due to the fuel problem at the bottom and the lack of spare parts, the machines cannot be fully commissioned.”
Arguing that the effort to keep the machines in operation at the same time was not possible due to the mud fuel and the lack of spare parts, Tuğcu called on the Prime Minister to take the necessary steps for a permanent solution.
Tuğcu said, “We are minding our own business. They are mismanaging and sabotaging it with bad fuel, we are stubbornly cleaning it and repairing the broken parts by working day and night. KIB-TEK will not end up like KTHY.”

Well that’s very understandable? So what the f ck is going on . I am just about sick of this. As normal no one wants to take responsibility only when everything is ok. The lies and crap is crazy. This could only happen here. I have never met so many liers

There is money involved ...fuel ...contracts ...etc ...what do you expect here ...
Most politicians and people in power in the world are corrupt . In bigger countries they just are better at hiding it ..in the USA they call bribery lobbying...
In small countries it can be more obvious as there are less systems and controls and it's easier for citizens to get involved themselves...

Im not by nature a supporter of Unions, never having been a member of one and always fought my own battles, , but I do feel for the workers in EL-SEN, Water rationed, power cuts, huge price increases, cost of living percentages on a par with Banana Republics. All we need now is fire and brimstone and it must have felt like that in Lefkosa, one weather forecaster quoted 42 today?
