As you may or may not not, the long awaited reported has just come out regarding compensation for those who were affected after being given blood transfusions obtained from American. Most of them interviewed were hemophiliacs or relatives of those who have since died. Radio Five Live is making an issue of it . One lady interviewed was trying to explained back in the day when the stigma was an a par with HIV Aids, but she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and was deported from "Northern Cyprus" She didn't mentioned the year but I'm sure it was since we moved here. Can anyone remember when this happened? There must have been a lot of publicity or was it all hushed up.?

Dear Lord, that is one of the most draconian treatments handed out to an innocent person I've read in a long time. It is similar to been thrown out of China or Russia. Can you imagine how she and her husband felt at the time, Certainly it proves, if proof is needed, the ignorance (which is still prominent with some aspects of medicine in this country) They may have some of the must up to date equipment but the mindset is light years behind. Thanks Dalartokat, that is the lady.

That's the purpose of the blood test and X-ray that younger Ex-pats are obliged to have for Residency.
As far as I know, it has always been the rule that you will be deported if you test positive for Hepatitis, HIV or Tuberculosis.
Of course, us older people wouldn't do anything that might cause us to catch any of those things - that's why we don't need to have the tests
