Residency Rejection Important Question?

If the police reject your residency application this time (having passed it in the years before) and you are given 5 days to leave, when you return (on a tourist visa) are they going to fine you for the time you were on the island after your old residency had run out?

Given that the police date was months after the last residency had run out?

As long as you leave within the 5 days notice, they are allowing you to come back in on a visa. 30 days or 60 if you are fortunate without a fine

You mean fortunate to get 60 days?
But DEFINITELY WITHOUT A FINE??
Are you (or others) sure of this? Asking for a friend but it is very important to them as the fine would be very large??

Definitely without a fine, my friend her residency was out in November , her police appointment June, where she was given 5 days to leave, we left for an hour or 2 via metehan and she was given 1 month visa on her return.

I definitely understand what you mean, the police lady kindly advised us to use metehan , the customs officer had no idea, so we had to go to immigration, the lady confirmed we had to leave, yes we are trying!!! She kindly wrote it down what he must do and then all ok but nobody I assure you asked for money. We pleaded for 30 days as we had heard you can get less but he kindly gave us one month :)

When we arrived at the border he said her file was closed, she could not exit, we must go to the immigration office, it seemed more of the case the young gentleman rang his boss, who hadn't turned up after 30 minutes of us waiting in June by the booth advised us to immigration as he did not know how to fully use the computer system. On our return he had no problem of allowing us out following the instructions the lady had written down for us to pass to him.

So you had to go to immigration in Nicosia first to get some form of pass through and back?

What did you say to this woman because my friend has been told that they will pay a fine coming back?

No you shouldn't have to go to immigration, the young gentleman just did not seem familiar with how to check out people who have the 5 day warning and the police closing the residency file, If your friend leaves before the 5 days , there is no reason for a fine on their return. They re enter on a visa, days given unknown.
Who has told them they will get a fine?
I replied as quick as I could but if they are over the 5 days they will get one. I have just remembered we did show the text but I had assumed that would of been common sense.

The lady at immigration just wrote on a piece of paper the instructions on what to click on within their computer system. Smart young man took pictures and probably learnt something that day instead of his supervisor taking over.

Ah right I understand, so there is like a process of 'closing the file' when you leave under the 5 day banner!
That makes sense as to no fine then.

Jees what a nightmare, everything seems to be these days!!!
thanks again snd1966 :+1:)

Good luck and I hope they find time to find a solution. Minimum wage, rent increases, deeds to properties, proving how you can live here but even who can sponsor you is causing a lot of stress especially for the ones who made their home here 15 to 20 years ago.
My friend who I helped, circumstances changed but I can say I found very little sympathy with the rules but found the police woman who allowed us to sit in the corridor in air con, the lady at immigration and even the gentlemen at metehan both ways very understanding with helping us.
