Road tax runs out at the end of September.
I am led to believe that it has to run out before you can renew it.

Anyway, any helpful hints, links etc about how to do it gratefully received, thanks 🙏

Never done it before!!

Yes you can renew it anytime after it has expired, if you go into the next month you will get fined

You won't be able to tax your car till the 1st of Oct. You must tax it before the 1st of November or get fined. It is really simple to do - follow the links and pay with your credit card.

Just one further query. I bought my car second hand from a dealer. It didn't come with an emissions test, or MOT or Tax, I just have the Log book and receipt. In petty sure I'm OK with MOT date and off to see dealer for the other. I suspect all I get is the Cypriot shrug. Any suggestions.

You can check for the MOT in the same way as you do for the road tax - just pick the MOT box instead, it is all very simple, don't try to out think it!!

How to pay for tax disc.
You can only pay for it on, or after the day it is due, NOT BEFORE. You have 1 month to renew, and pay for it, or charges start.

Write your licence plate registration in CAPITAL LETTERS without spaces. *****

Your ID Number is the number you first used when registering the car upon purchase. In many cases it is your passport number (The passport you had at the time) preceded by a capital (P) P********* (assuming your passport was used for the initial registration, (However in recent times the (P) has not been used when registering the car, so if it doesnt work, try it without the (P). This ID number will always stay the same from when the car was first registered.)

If you then write **/**/**** (Date the car was FIRST registered, Not the date that you want the tax to start from,) Use the calendar to put the date in, Year first on the right, then Month in the middle, then on the left, the Day. NOT today's date, you can then login to the system.

Verify with the code at the bottom to prove that you are not a robot.

The details of the car will then come up, and what payment is due.

On the LHS, the option should be Road Tax Debt Payment click on that, and follow the process.

When you have made payment, an option will come up for you to download, and print.

Well, last day to pay my car tax today. Now, as far as I’m concerned today ends at 2359hrs. Oh no!
According to the website you can only make payment until 2200hrs.

Not a problem since I started the process at 1730. Got all the details up, input payment info and nothing happened- 8 times on safari and chrome.

Firstly, has nobody told them an online system doesn’t need someone watching it 24/7? Call me cynical, but my guess is, they turned the payment bit off early so that tomorrow they can fine me and everyone else who left it to the last day.

Same with residency, why did whoever wrote that programme not exclude weekends and Bayrams from appointment dates? I’m no IT guru but apparently it’s not difficult to do!

Paid my road tax this morning - ouch - did not know it had gone up that much! From 4327TL last year to 8006TL this year is quite a jump for a 14 year old tatty old Rav 4, guess it is all to pay for the new roads and speed cameras and police checks. I shudder to think what the road tax is on a new Range Rover - lol. It's a simple process, just pay it when it's due and it's easy.

It was due yesterday Waddo. You have until the last day of the month.
It gave me all details, the only thing it wouldn’t do was let me pay!

And yes, mine has almost doubled in price.

Nc2016, Understood, I always pay mine as soon as it's due in case I forget later in the month or they sneak the cost up after that - lol. Been at 60% residency for a bit now but guess that will change very soon now the new minimum wage is in the Gazete and they can put the cost of that up as well. I think it's time to let the old Rav go as we don't use it much anymore and if the tax doubles again next year it probably will be more than I would get for it in a sale - lol. Strange place and systems here but we still love it even after 17 years.

Only 1.5km to the shops for us but all down hill as well, could have been better if it was all uphill to the shops mind you - lol.

Yes you can Frugal, I've paid using Revolut and Chase debit cards, don't think I've tried Starling, but can't see why it wouldn't be accepted

Has anyone tried their web site today please? The reason I ask is that I am trying to download a document and it says please wait? I have been waiting all day, I cannot print the document unless that goes away?

It depends where you live, there is magic touch in town or Deniz Plaza near Tim's café opposite Erdeners supermarket.
