Popadoms restaurant
Went to Popadoms restaurant last night for the first time all I will say it was the best Indian restaurant here imo had a chicken tikka masala with Pilau rice with a peshwari naan can’t praise enough went with some friends a group of six and all enjoyed what we had the owner is so enthusiastic about what he does and it really shows in the food it was as good as the uk if not better will not go anywhere else it was a delight.

In my opinion there are far better Indian restaurants out there and far cheaper, but good for you supporting them.

Every time we go past at night, it's empty, does not bode well during the winter.

Went past yesterday, I was in crawling in the car, and I did notice the sign, but they do need to change it, I know the letters are large, but not very prominent. IMHO.

Went yesterday ,what a pleasant experience ,spotless inside very friendly host. Excellent food with proper spices and pieces of chicken not the cubed pieces of meat you get in so many places. Cost for two 800tl plus 200 for soft drink. We went twice for starters and twice for mains , greedy but it was toooo nice

No alcohol server, drank or available is this establishment - that is what puts people off I am afraid. No problem for us but for others it means they will not go there - sad really as the food is excellent.

That's a shame. Not that they don't serve alcohol, but the fact it puts people off going. Is there an opportunity for people to take their own and pay corkage?
I wouldn't care either way, and in fact don't even notice if places don't sell alcohol until someone brings it to my attention.

It does put people off going but that's their choice including mine. They do not allow people to take their own alcohol.

As a teetotaler it wouldn't deter me from going to a particularly eatery but I can understand it might do so to others. I've asked and explained about corkage a few times, but its always been a no no just in case someone might whistle-blow to the licensing authority.

Re: Popadoms restaurant
I questioned this when they first opened, it is against their religious beliefs to have alcohol on the premises so, if you want a beer with your curry, as many brits do, have a takeaway and drink at home. Had a takeaway once, very nice but all about choices.

Re: Popadoms restaurant
We have been several times and had over a dozen takeaways. The food is excellent authentic Indian food. I love a beer with my curries but I must admit It did not bother me in the slightest not having beer whilst dining there. When we have had takeaways, I was suprised how hot the food is when it arrives, we live about 15 minutes away. If you like hot curries, I would recommend the "Chilli Explosion", not mind blowingly hot but it is made with a variety of fresh hot chillies and not chilli powders.

Thanks for explanation MrsGee. Fair enough.
I can totally understand folk wanting a beer or wine with their meal. I used to love having a glass of wine but completely gone off the notion for a long time now. Maybe now that it's getting cooler the notion will return as I've got plenty red wine sitting in the drinks cabinet.

I can understand people wanting an alcoholic drink with their Indian, but do you need to at every meal? The food is great and the restaurant is one of the cleanest I've seen in TRNC......that's good enough for me.
I love a beer with my curry, but go to other restaurants too that don't serve alcohol. The quality of food is more important to me.
I recommend you try Popadoms Indian Restaurant if you haven't done so yet.

Can you take your own wine like used to in many uk Chinese and Indian restaurants years ago. Can’t see it affecting and probably increases their turnover

Soner you would be surprised at how many insist on having alcohol. At least twice, I've had people insisting we go elsewhere as there has been no alcohol. My fault as I really don't pay attention, it's the food that is the attraction for me, not the drink.

It used to be great fun. The one that bought the strangest bottle of wine didn’t pay. No body went home sober. Great nights out. So cheap

Lebanon is a bit too far to go for a curry through?? Unless of course you can get a beer with your curry there.
