Latest reg I have seen this morning was YY*** - not far to go now for sure and as far as I know the Govt still have not made up their mind on the new ones. Could make it easy and issue a new number plate, per region, every year complete with the road tax stamp on it? Total chaos would ensue but hey, why not - lol. Think of the money they would make - lol.

Not quite:
First two numbers are indeed the year

Third number:
1 = registered between January and June of the year
2 = registered between July and December of the year

Letters between numbers are the town/county in which the vehicle is registered

Similar to Germany; B 123 A, Berlin. Simples.

Always thought ZT was tax not paid but deferred, an option instead of staying on your original plate until importing.
Red plated with white numbers and green with black numbers, anyone know?
ZZ was students in the 80's and 90's from we assumed 🇹🇷

Have you noticed there are more and more "named" plates, the very first I saw were the Merit and Colony Hotels, yonks ago but now personal names are becoming more common. Together with something like YM 007, yesterday.

ZT is also being used on LHD cars that can never be taxed and imported and therefore remain 'visitor' status.

Dealer I talked to today thinks it will be ZA*** - seems a bit silly, what would happen when we get to ZZ***? They must have run out by now so keeping my eyes open.

From 16th September…… Referring to the issue of new license plates to replace the two-letter and three-digit license plates, which are nearing the end, Arıklı explained that there are two alternatives, “AA 001A” or “001 AA”, and said that they will present both alternatives to the Council of Ministers and decide on which ones will be used.
