Panorama re Revolut customers being scammed
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m ... your-money
Not watched this yet, but thought it might be of interest to some. I use Revolut sometimes here, but never have much in the account, preferring to use Chase for 1% cash back and with savings account.
I suspect that those being scammed have responded to a scam phone call or SMS, something of that ilk anyway.

Re: Panorama re Revolut customers being scammed
Fraud happens on all banks the theme of the Panorama that struck me was how difficult or near Revoult were to contact when a problem occurs
Had a problem with a card when in Cyprus it stopped working luckily i have other methods of payments
It turns out the card company had tried to contact me but i dont answer witheld numbers or access my voice messages
long story short my card had tried to book a couple of Travellodges and pay for meals in the UK .
Spoke to the Bank on return no loss to me they had twigged somehow it was illegal use

Still not watched Wanderer, but can see your point regarding difficulty in contacting Revolut. I've only contacted them once over chat, for help to change phone number and must admit it was pretty quick. However, in scam cases, one would be in a right panic and would require immediate intervention.
The new law in the UK where banks have to refund up to £85,000 should perhaps get Revolut to tighten things up, especially if they want a full banking licence.
Must admit I've been pretty impressed with Chase blocking one payment so far, which was genuine, from me to my daughter. It was unusual due to the amount to another person, and was quickly sorted when I contacted them and explained, obviously having to go through security protocols.

If you have a UK bank account then Currensea is a Which best buy, no charges if you draw out in TL or any other currency, only charged if you draw out in £ Sterling. No need to preload your card it comes straight from you UK bank current account . Excellent service

But if you live abroad, even if you are a UK tax paying citizen, with a British Passport - just try to get a bank account in the UK!!! You need to live there or lie about your address or you can't get a bank account there.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

It's a pity that they only seem to deal in 16 other currencies besides Sterling - and the Turkish Lira doesn't appear to be one of them!

The bottom line is never take a phone call from anyone who claims to be a bank at face value. Tell them you will initiate your own call. Don't ask them for a number and don't ever give them any details.

Re: Panorama re Revolut customers being scammed
Unfortunately there will always be people that will fall for the latest scam they've not heard about in the news and all the while people do, there will always be scammers. We can tell people not to give out personal or financial details until we're Blue in the face, but people will still keep doing so.
We can tell people not to leave the key in the door when they lock it before going to bed time and time again in case they fall in the night and we won't be able to get in and still they do because they knew they "thought it would be ok".
We can tell people not let anyone in the house they don't know or aren't expecting until the cows come home and still they do cos the bloke "had a nice smile and an ID card".
Sorry I digress, but yeah what Groucho said.

I did say you have to have a UK bank account to get a Currensea Card, Check it out if you have a UK bank. I have used it for over 18 months, I have several friends who are now using Currensea, it is like using a Mastercard in England, not charges at all if you draw TL out of an ATM or pay in a shop. It is a Which Recommend best buy and have saved us a fortune in card charges

Forgot to say if you decide Currensea card will work, you will have to get somebody in the UK to post it on or bring it out to you. Check out the web site for more info.

Thanks Rockpebbler, something to bear in mind if ever needed.
One that I won't be using is Wise as a 2 years back I had someone try to take money from the account but used the wrong expiry date. I'd never even used the card which was in the house, hadn't received any calls or SMS, so my only conclusion was that the breach was with Wise at some point. I know that other people are happy with Wise, but that one experience has put me right off.
