I know that it is no longer necessary to obtain a VISA for flights too and from Turkey and TRNC but is it still necessary to pay 75GBP for a suitcase going in the hold.

It all depends on who you are flying with TK airlines have different price tickets economy fly with just hand baggage and then prime fly to include hold baggage.
