I'll have to try and find the video again to be accurate but I clicked on You Tube yesterday and it was an English bloke explaining why. He went to an Agent who specializes in obtain residences and the dates and percentages in Turkey were almost identical to here (with a couple of changes) .. You could say that this Government just cut and paste the dates and percentages required in order to obtain Full Title Deeds, even down to Tapu paying you a call and taking photos of your property and the surrounding area and property in order to revalue the price of your property before putting it up for sale and the Tax (per person) demanded.

Most people were only able to obtain 6 monthly residency. I think they could apply for 2 years if they had their full Title Deeds.

The percentages of monthly amount which had to be paid into a TURKISH BANK could be calculated on a monthly basis, and the account must always have a minimum of 40,000tl in it. There was no mention of what you might have in a UK account.

Much of the discussion was to prevent foreigners buying multi properties and then using them as B and B. Looks like Turkey is coming down hard on FOREIGNERS doing this.

The final point was that Foreigners could apply for Turkish citizenship provided they deposit a minimum of 400,000 dollars (no mention of Euro)

All in all it was Residences and increase of cost of living which is driving people out,

The new rules for short term rental where not just aimed at foreigners imo there was a lot of property rented daily for illicit purposes ..& part of the measures where designed to enable tax collection .
Its easier to get a short term rental license in a resort than a block of flats where you need 100% of owners to agree.


Some areas in turkey are now closed for residency as too many came.

The 400k $ for citizenship - most dont see this attractive as it has to be held in tl for 3 years.

You can also gain citizebship by buying $400k worth of properties..it was only $200 k but the programne was so successful they increased it. Ive heard rumours its going to be increased again to $650 k in the near future.

Yes Dalartokat, thats the one. Never seen it before and it was interesting to note that the rules and regs are virtually the same. Not sure which came first, the chicken or the egg in this case.

Unfortunately as we all know its even more expensive here than turkey. The minimum wage being so much.higher etc.

They are bringing in sector pay for foreign workers in march here. Im guessing it will be less than the minimum wage. There are 70000 foreign workers here. Will things get any cheaper? Unlikely just the hotels will make more money ...
