The prevalence of AI

I started to suspect that some of the content that I was seeing on the Internet was generated by AI - the type of stuff that is fairly bland, generic information that doesn't really tell you anything that you didn't already know.

What first got me thinking was a few posts on Kibkom that appeared to be from members who hadn't posted for a while, and which were quite uncharacteristic of those members' normal writing style, or were about subjects in which they had never previously shown any interest, or displayed any knowledge of. The posts were notably 'Bland' - mostly in the 3rd person, but lately started to use the 1st person.

I wondered just how easy it was to create something like that, so I thought that I'd give it a try using a free AI tool !

I was using my 'phone, so I chose the lowest resolution, chose something simple and used the following text as instructions...

"Make a short instructional video on how to boil an egg"

That was it, just that text and click on 'Enter'.

To my surprise it did just that - and although it's a fairly crap video (& the eggs appear to change colour in each scene :) ) it was reasonably accurate.

To see the result click here.

Of course it is probably just as easy for the instructions to deliberately create a false scenario - be careful of what you believe!

I cook my two breakfast eggs in this manner - i.e. starting in cold water, but I only leave them in the boiled water for 1 extra minute after turning off the heat source, 4 minutes and they'd be really quite hard yokes. I don't sling them in iced water either, I like them hot!

No-one wants to dip a soldier in a lukewarm egg... do they?

I always knew you were a 'bot' Keith.

I didn't know that you were a 'bot' as well!

Perhaps an IT service call is in order?

Either that or take the pc back to the shop from whence it came and tell them that computers are not for me...
