The report is quite long, so I won't translate it all, just certain bits ... the best bits, so to speak ... no pun intended.
Apparently in TRNC there are a total of 42 "gece kulüpleri", which is basically a TC euphemism for "licensed brothel", though some of the women are employed only as dancers ... apparently. In any case a total of 370 women are employed at these "night clubs".
Apparently the country that provides most of the women is Moldova, followed by Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kenya and Russia - though I'm surprised by the inclusion of "Russia" - when I worked in Moscow, I was told by my Russian friends that none of the prostitutes there were Russian - apparently they all came from the former Soviet Republics ... maybe though that is what the Russian authorities wanted us to believe
In any case, getting back to the report, there are 21 night clubs in the Lefkoşa area, 8 in the Mağusa area, 8 in the Girne area and 5 in the Güzelyurt area. The report makes a point of saying there are none in the Iskele area, which is the region towards the north-east of Cyprus ... it's not in the report, but it would seem to me they are implying that Iskele is too far for the Greek Cypriot men to travel to.
The report goes into great depth as to how the "industry" is all above aboard ... but I'll skip that. However, suffice to say, the owners are complaining that the government is taking too much of their profits. And this coupled with a loss of business is causing difficulties for them ... I know many TCs would come to the conclusion that this downturn in business is related to financial problems in the south ... though again this is not mentioned in the report.
