Shipping insurance needed

I am using Euromed to transport my car and some belongings from the UK to Famagusta. Unfortunately, they do not provide loss/damage insurance for their container shipments and I am struggling to find anyone that does this sort of insurance. Does anyone know of an insurer that can provide individuals with loss/damage of goods being transported by container?

We tried several insurance companies when we had our stuff moved from TRNC to UK last year and none were able to help. Assuming you have a UK insurer have you approached them to see if they can help? Most provide cover of sorts to drive in other countries as do breakdown providers, though dependant on circumstances of course.

Thanks for the response. I have tried dozens of insurers but none of them are willing to underwrite cargo/goods in transit shipments for consumers. they will only underwrite for businesses like Euromed - who in turn offer the insurance as an option. Unfortunately no carrier to North Cyprus has such insurance.

I’m not sure if this is what you need but Aspin International Removals moved us from Ireland to the TRNC in 2016 and recently moved some items back for us over Christmas (they’re a U.K. firm but do cover Ireland as well).
They use Euromed to do the actual shipping but do offer insurance.
As I say this was to move household effects not a car.

Excellent service both ways and very reasonable.

Thanks everyone. I managed to find a company in North Cyprus to cover all risks for transporting my car and possessions. £350 well spent for peace of mind! The company is called Yetkin Sigorta in Famagusta

So is buying a car here Gates, might be a good move.

Glad you got sorted out Kagan. I can't remember what we did back in 2010. All I remember was that insurance would only pay out if the ship went down.

Alphamike Do you remember roughly the time when you and I both moved here, a ship did go down and one poor lady lost everything. Have a feeling she is still here and divers go down to see the wreck. (Could be wrong about the latter)??

BB, I do remember that happening, but the details evade me. If I recall anything will let you know, but others may have better memories than moi. Pity we didn't still have access to the old forum.

You can still access https://www.cyprus44.com/ but there is very little mention about a lost container ship!

Thanks Waddo, it wasn't Cyprus44, and certainly not available online. Rug was pulled from under our feet with no notice.

Was floundering to remember the name, pretty sure it was The Northern Cyprus BB, not to be confused with another similar sounding forum started up by the sadly late Nigel Watson.

alphamike, I think it was the long lamented one that people took the p++ out of, mostly 44 members who referred to it as The Happy Clappy Forum. We had quizes etc and had an honesty policy whereby we were not allowed to look at Wikipedia. Meals out etc. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's the one BB. We used to have great times, without all the aggro on 44. Such a long time ago now.

Kagan, apologies for taking your thread way off course.

no probs alphamike - very interesting!

gates / alphamike - I did a huge cost benefit analysis (sad but true) and worked out it is far more economical to ship my car from the UK to TRNC. I still get the warranty honoured in the TRNC and I pay reduced import duties for settling in the TRNC. Buying the same car (Defender 90) second hand or new would have been significanclty more expensive in the TRNC.

Kagan, well done you on doing your research. Dread to think what your car price would be here. I was horrified going into a garage with a friend, to see prices on the forecourt, absolutely bonkers.

it is shocking, it feels like the TRNC tax revenue comes from casinos and importing cars! Cars in the TRNC are double the price of the UK. Interestingly, in Turkey cars are double the price of the TRNC - even worse

Didn't realise that prices in Turkey were worse than here, blooming heck! Somebody is definitely cashing in big time. Prices seem to have really risen since covid.
