With the decision of the Council of Ministers, there has been a serious increase in the price of water coming from Türkiye. The price of water, which is currently delivered to citizens by municipalities as the cheapest tariff of 9.80 TL, has been increased to 18.28 TL.
With the “Rules on the Use, Distribution and Entitlement of Drinking Water and Agricultural Water and the Determination and Collection of Fee Tariffs (Amendment) Regulation” prepared under the Law on the Department of Water Affairs (Establishment, Duties and Working Principles) and published in the Official Gazette, water prices were increased by almost 100%.
The drinking water fee tariff to be applied to municipalities in places where water supplied from the Republic of Turkey is delivered has increased from 9.80 TL per cubic meter to 18.28 TL.
The decision noted that the new tariff will come into effect as of Sunday, June 15.

Now they know the island is in the grip of the longest drought in history they pounce like all good profiteers do...
The real questions are:
1. Why have they allowed a tsunami of unjustified, largely impossible to supply construction? And
2. Will the local wells be brought into action to sell us inferior water at Turkish prices?

With regards to Q2 - Whatever makes you think that the local wells are not already in action selling inferior water at Turkish prices? Unless I have read the information incorrectly then they can now sell well water at the same price (legally) anyway!

We purchased 10 ton of water this week from Esentepe Belediye and it cost 280 lira. Would'nt mind but hardly any water coming through the pipes, it's not that they are'nt pumping it, it thst most of the water is being used to make cement at the factory by Casa Del Mar

when you take in consideration that
1. you do not pay a standing charge, the water still is very cheap. maybe even too cheap.
"thames water" charges (for metered customers) 2,4 GBP ( = approx 130 lira) per ton
+ 2. Thames water charges 1,5 GBP for waste water.
so, (often) in total 3,9 GBP per ton.
but with the coming electricity prices you are most probably right. the guaranteed price for 1 kWh of the new Akkuyu nuclear power station will be at least 12 US dollar cent. at the moment 4,6 lira (actual selling price for the first 0-250 kWh is 4,8 lira per kWh)
plus... distribution in TR from power station to trafo station, trafo in TR, 70 km cable TR-TRNC, trafo in TRNC, distribution TRNC (+ maybe new lines required) from Kibtek.
most probably the prices will go up soon (slowly but surely), to cover these costs and not to make the "jump" from 4,8 to 13 TL too tough.
it is absolutely "mad" NOT to have a (on grid) PV solar system, as long it is permitted (yes, it can be that this will be stopped...).
or at least run the pool with a (Lorentz) solar pool pump.

It's been 50p a ton for as long as I can remember. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Happy with the way çatalköy esentepe bill , a charge for municipality tasks, dustcart comes twice a week road is swept etc and pay per ton where I note some municipalities are still including between 5 and 10 but a far higher cost.
Only use between 1 and 2 units of water and less than 250 units of electricity a month.
Always amazed when people come out, use so much water and electricity and only here 2 weeks.

Yes we pay for 10 tons of water in Tatlisu whether we use it or not. Last bill was 162.41TL which isn't bad at all, although with this new price increase expect it will double.

At 18.28tl it is still under 35p a ton (1000 litres).

Your next bill should be 247.21tl, providing other service charges haven't increased.

I have complained to the mayor of esentepe and been on the forum regarding the water issues. The point is I have to pay for tanker water, now 6 times, at a cost of 4.000 tl for 20 tonnes to fill the back up tanks for the site. So when we get the water in from the tanker it still goes through our meters from the belediye. Which means we are paying not only for tanker water but we are paying for water that they are not supplying.

Thanks Soner, I was far too lazy to work it out. Not unduly concerned about water, wish my electric bill was that low.
Joker that really is taking the mickey with paying through the meter for tankered water, I'd be complaining too. I thought that the Bele had to provide you with tankered water if no piped water, in which case it would be ok for it to run through the meter.

The price announcement relates to what the municipality pays....not the end user....they havent decided the new price for end users...

Water bill arrived today in Catalkoy. Still the same price of 280tl for 10 ton, not actually had any mains water since last Thursday anyway but already paying 28tl for the water that Catalkoy buy in for 9.80tl a ton so wondering what the new price will be next month when Catalkoy pay 18.28 before they add on their bit?
Maybe this should be moved to the drinks profiteering thread - lol.

We do pay a meter rental charge which equates to a standing charge to my mind

We also pay a meter rental charge, we still have the same meter which was installed 20 years ago and someone comes and reads it once a month
