Very sad, he felt he had to resign especially as Britain is a guarantor of Cyprus and often quoted whole of Cyprus.

I notice that the BBC used the term 'Invasion' in the report, again. When will the researches get it right?

The BBC and ITV will never change their opinions, neither will most Government departments. Right or Wrong the UK will not change. PS. I think you'll find most newspapers report The Invasion as well, plus I wouldn't trust the BBC further than I could throw the woke, far left bunch.

Under the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee, the 20th of July 1974 was a legal intervention by Turkey - FACT! The Turkish action on the 14th of August was classed by the UN as a violation of international law and the UN charter! That makes the 14th of August an invasion! However, regardless of the correct and legal actions by Turkey on the 20th of July, common opinion has caused both actions to be viewed as a first and second phase of an overall invasion. This appears to have been brought about by the UN condemning the ‘Invasion’ as a violation of the UN charter without actually stating which action was an ‘Intervention’! Much publicity by the Greek Cypriot side has helped keep the water muddied and the UN are still trying to sort it out - don’t hold your breath!

When was the last time the UN sorted out anything of any significance. ?

Seems Wendy Morton, Conservative, has a short memory, she visited TRNC in July 2021 and posed alongside President Tatar. As has Iain Duncan Smith, Dominic Raab, Leo Docherty, Stephen Doughty to name some. Also rumoured that Tommy Robinson was seen out there also.(Instagram).
Didn't see the problem with Afzal Khan if he was on a personal visit and not exchanging political views as a Labour Minister.

Tragic when people can’t visit a friend or relative without losing their job
As Darlatokat said what about the others who have been here recently…… 2 tier again

He shouldn’t have resigned, which would have meant Two Tier Kier sacking him. By resigning he’s basically admitting that he was in the wrong and in my opinion has let the TCs down. He allegedly paid for the trip himself so I cannot see what he has done wrong visiting friends and family.

But isn’t the problem caused by his visiting Ersin Tatar?
https://cyprus-mail.com/2025/08/16/uk-t ... t-to-north
“During his visit to the north on August 8, Khan met with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar and had his photograph taken with gifts bearing the flag of the north, sparking widespread criticism in Cyprus and the UK.”
He also said he was “receiving an honorary degree from an academic institution.”
You can understand why it seems more than just a private visit, even if he did pay for it himself.

Until I read and re read message 11, I was in agreement with Message 10. I believe he wanted his 20 mins of fame (I'll give him more than 5 mins) but in doing so he has shot the "cause" in the foot. By resigning he has helped no-one nor made many friends. As to an Honorary degree from an academic institution, To be perfectly honest, I can't see that's going to get him very far in the scheme of things but I suppose he can stick a photo on his mantle piece at home.

Wendy Morton is about to shoot herself in the foot for demanding the resignation of Afzal Khan. She posed with Ersin Tatar but was there talking politics, she is quoted as saying that both sides should be listened to. She needs to step down from politics also, it should not make a difference that she is in opposition, but clearly she's using her position to try and bring others down. The ROC needs to change the mentality that they are the only ones who can speak for others.
