Coming back towards Girne from Lapta way yesterday, called in at the large Starling supermarket on left to discover that it's closed down!
When did that happen? Are there any plans for the site?

Haven't a clue but I've said for two years that it looked scruffy and unloved. Perhaps its going to have a complete revamp?

It's a "dog eat dog world" as they say in China, South Korea, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and parts of northeastern India such as Nagaland.

I was alluding to the circumstances when one new supermarket opens, almost always another's profits drop rendering the business fatally flawed.. same with restaurants, coffee shops, DIY markets... one man's good idea is stolen and thrown back in his face.

They have rules for new petrol stations supposedly minimum 7km from an existing one, But fuel is fixed price so that makes sence,

Its never 7km between the Alpet petrol station next to Credit West and the KP petrol station in Alsancak. I notice as one opens an adjoining car washing facility, then the next one will open a bigger and better one . At t the Alpet one you can wash your own with a very powerful hose that will strip the paint off. I asked the price " ten minutes for 400tl. That was when first opened, haven't a clue now.

Yes, I understand the dog eat dog concept.
It was the references to South East Asia etc. which puzzled me. (8)) (8))

They are the only nations where dogs are eaten by some communities on a regular basis, are we not meant to mention this?

It has nothing to do with that at all!

The phrase is an idiom — which means we cannot take to it with a literal interpretation. The whole idea behind the idiom isn't about dogs consuming or ingesting other dogs — at all. Rather, the 'eat' is about dogs mauling, gnawing and tearing the bone and sinew of each other during barbaric dog fights to the death.

And to think, this debacle started because of the first message i.e. Starlings closing?

The rule is more recent and designed at stopping inundation of petrol stations causing turf wars....

APROPOS the dogs, that was meant to be a lighthearted aside which some seem to have taken far too seriously and failed to get it.
