Anyone know why the banks don't seem to be dispensing g sterling out of atms. ?

T.e b however I have been told many atms are the same. Best to check for myself rather than hearsay !

poppy, sorry but you are incorrect. Ten years+ ago I frequently used Garanti for withdrawing sterling, in fact they had two ATMS, one was specifically for sterling and Euro. This went on for years but suddenly they stopped. They were able to dispense these currencies because they were a bona fide Turkish bank. I Just to let you know that have Dollar and Euro accounts with them. Unless they have changed within the last three months, and I haven't been informed.

They definitely used to because up to about 6-7 years ago I used to use one. They then started to slap a charge of about 5% on which is when I stopped.

I was told - years ago - that only mainland Turkey bank branch’s are allowed to dispense £/€/$ from their ATMs. Again, since they all started to charge for withdrawal I have not used any of them!

When they are all charging something like 8.5% last time I tried then I doubt there is much demand hence no more i'd guess!

We were with Garanti till last year …..
We were told no Sterling account only dealing in TL accounts... no withdrawal of Sterling this was all in the Girne branch

We were misinformed then, we never had chance to put sterling in Garanti.
We are more than happy with the bank we have now all up front with currency they deal with.

Ah yes, very easy to be misinformed. Remember the saga I had at a bank in Famagusta which said no foreigners, and that was a downright lie.
To be honest, think you're better off not going to Garanti from the reception I had at their Famagusta branch, their loss totally. Must be something with Famagusta banks with me.

My wife has a sterling account with GARANT together with her TL Accounts. Yesterday we visited the bank and she withdrew £1000 sterling without any problems.As a matter of interest she asked the cashier the limit on her withdrawal and was told no limit proving she had the funds and phoned a day before to ensure they had the amount in hand.

Has any 3rd country national on this forum an account with isbank? If so, what do you think of their service to a non Turkish speaker?

Not all Garanti ATMs have Sterling. I have a sterling account with them and frequently use the ones at Yesiltepe/Alsancak filling station, Macro Girne and the one near the old Belediyesi building in Girne and exLemar in Karakum. All have sterling. I have used the Yesiltepe one today with no problem.

Don't know where it is then, cos it says sent and outward bound is empty. Will have another go, it was carefully constructed and could take some time.

You can then use Ctrl-V to PASTE the text into another message without having to type it all again...
