My residency is due for renewal next month and I am really struggling for a reason why I should not apply for Exemption, the wife has had residency for 10 years, I have had residency since the over 60's gentleman's agreement expired.

Can those of you who have recently applied for residency tell me what made you apply for 2 years residency and not 5 years Exemption

Get 5 years, you never know what may happen in 2.

Advantages of the Exemption is that you dont need to worry about it again for 5 Years, also it saves you 5 years payments (who knows how much it will increase in the near 5 years???)
The only disadvantage is the emergency health cover has to be arranged by you, so you can use the govt scheme or private cover or not bother and just pay if you need to use the state hospital (this is what we do as you are only covered for emergency treatment and paying as you use it is very reasonable cost wise)

Paid residency for past 18 years, if I could get exemption I would grab it. But I rent so stuck with every 2 years, told that there’s a change coming after January but then also was told the mountain road would be closed from August 15th to all traffic 😂🤣😂
