House insurance.

I recently renewed my house insurance. One item made me laugh. The sum insured for the pool is 50% higher than for the house itself. The cover is limited to fire and flood but exclusions include the pool shell, equipment and pump house. Leaving just the pool water insured against flood or fire. There is also an excess which is about 10 times the cost of refilling the pool. This must be a highly profitable line of insurance.

I stopped my contents Insurance years ago. I decided it was cheaper (more often than not) to replace what ever was broken and they made a fuss and nonsense about repairs to a sideboard. i.e. Self Insurance.

We dont bother either, the last time we were broken into we had to jump through hoops to get them to pay out. When they came around to assess the property we were told we need a huge safe like the ones in banks! When the renewal notice came through the premium was up about 70% we told them to stick it.

My sentiments exactly. A girl after my own heart. Don't try and insure jewellery either. Pointless, and if you persevere , 5 grand is the maximum value. At least it was a year or so ago.

Re Pools I agree the insurance companies are ripping us off on this one. Just ask them to remove the pool from your policy. However be careful for eg during the last hail storm my pool grills were very badly damaged. So I claimed under Hail damage Worth having this one put on Also the pump room is the most vulnerably as it is open to flooding, in the event of a cracked fitting etc and also the pump. So, in my opinion it is worth keeping the pump room and contents in. If you have tile damage some companies will not pay for any water re fill. Yes a rip off But it is up to all of us to say what we want on the policy and what we do not want. Get their new price and address accordingly.
Incidentally how many of you have been asked for Earth Quake damage cover on your cars as well as houses??????
