Money growing on trees

Am I totally out of touch?
I asked my local garden centre for a particular palm. Price £650 each. In the UK a similar sized, imported, plant is £30-60.
Similarly, a fruit tree here was 9000tl, (£160) for the same species, in the UK the price is about £50.
Am I hallucinating?
Is my pink skin an invitation to multiply the local price by 10?

I think it's more desperation and the need not to load prices to the few customers that need things.
The old rule of x 3 has gone, smaller profit but get people buying again

Eagle, Regardless of what people say on this and other forums I honestly believe is blatant racism. Over the last three years it has become so blatant in a lot of stores . Some "honest" locals that I speak to are horrified and as one said only last Wednesday, "I am ashamed of some of my citizens. Two or three have actually told me, don't go and buy anything "large" without me going in with you. How sad is that??

Probably I am surprised by the prices as I have raised most of the trees (date palms, flame, italian cypresses etc) and shrubs in my garden from seed or cuttings. The only significant cost is time. I don't have much of that left now.
