Hi all. Whats the earliest one can renew a UK passport please?
I will have a year left on my passport when I come to do my new residency. As I will be applying for the usual 2 years residency I think they would only give me a year so want to try to renew passport so I have at least 2 years. Thank you

You can renew a UK passport anytime. I renewed mine with over 2 years still left, so I would have 10 years when I moved here.

Thinking I was safe with 2027 renewal but not as 2015 issue
"Old" Passports: If you renewed early (pre-Sept 2018), your passport might have a 10-year, 9-month validity, but the final 9 months are invalid for EU entry.
Check Two Dates: On your travel date, check (1) the date of issue (must be <10 years old) and (2) expiry date (must have >3 months left).
Action Needed: If your passport fails either check, you must renew it before booking travel to the EU.

Example:
Issued: 10 May 2015
Expires: 10 February 2026
Status: Invalid for travel to EU after 10 May 2025, even though it is valid on its face until 2026.
Check your passport's issue and expiry dates now to avoid being denied boarding

When you apply on line for a UK passport renewal from the TRNC, which country do you choose from the drop down list of countries where you live?
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

A customer took the old passport back to the UK and obviously posted but DHL bought back the old and new passport.
Very quick, application accepted within 2 days and new passport on it's way within 4 days, another 3 days and it was at Ercan

If it's any help, I put this together after renewing my wife's passport:

8th April filled in details online at overseas passport application page:
https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports
Chose Turkey as location.
Format for address was:
Name
Karsiyaka
Street name, house No
Girne Mersin 10
Turkey
994410
Took photo using phone and uploaded it.
Paid the fee, including postage back to TRNC via DHL, total £120.86.
Sent old passport to the address provided, with muhtar's letter (no stamps) and colour copy of residency permit.
Did this at Girne post Office, next to law courts. They don't sell envelopes, so bought padded one from Deniz Shop across the road from George pub (18tl)
Needed my name, address and phone number on the back of the envelope.
Sent by tracked delivery (40tl) on 14 Apr.
Tracked all the way to final destination via this website:
http://gonderitakip.gov.ct.tr/
Received email confirming package arrival at UK passport office 25th Apr.
Received email 2nd May saying the application had been approved.
Received email 3rd May saying the new passport had been printed and sent by secure delivery.
Received email 4th May reminding that the passport must be signed on arrival.
WhatsApp message 7th May from DHL with estimated delivery date of 12th May from UK passport.
WhatsApp message from DHL 12th May with estimated delivery date of 15th May for second package from UK passport office.
Two emails from DHL and Passport Office 12th May confirming two shipments (new and old passport separately) are on the way.
WhatsApp message from different DHL number 13th May, confirming package from UK passport office for delivery next day, asking for address. I sent the address plus a dropped pin.
WhatsApp message from DHL 14th May confirming delivery of passport today.
DHL phoned to check our location 14th May. Passport delivered to our home half hour later.
WhatsApp message from DHL 20 May confirming package from UK passport office for delivery next day, asking if the address was the same as for the previous package.
WhatsApp message from a different DHL number 21 May, asking for location pin. Old passport and supporting documents delivered to our home 10 minutes later.

Super information just have one (I hope) last question - Did you have to send your old passport back to UK? We are both going to apply for new passports next month but both of ours are well in date for at least another 6 months. If we have to send the old ones back as part of the process then we will be "Stuck" in the TRNC till our new passports return. Is that normal and I only ask because it is nearly 10 years since I last renewed my passport and I honestly can't remember - lol.

They won't start the renewal process until they receive your old passport.
