Can't find the original thread re passports so have just started this one for your information only.
My wife and I have temp residency which expires in September this year (2026). Our passports will run out this and next year so we bit the bullet and renewed them both on the same day. Due to public holidays in the UK and the 10 day public holiday in Turkey they new ones were delayed but eventually got here on the 4th & 5th of June.
I read all the information and talked to everyone who was "In the Know" about what we should do next. The information was so conflicting that we made the decision to visit the immigration dept in Lefcosia instead, when you go there you must keep your sence of humour in your pocket or purse and don't let it escape - if you lose the plot it can be a terrible time but if you have a smile it works out well.
Having been shunted from one dept to another and one building to another we finally ended up at the Information Desk (That is the glass encased room that looks like a cattle market, where everyone just pushes around or pays somebody to ask questions for them) at that desk you will find between one and four different people - none of which understand English and have to call another lady in who will translate for them. Sorry, they all seem to speak and understand two definite words in English - WHAT & NO - but persevere and you will get there in the end.
So here goes - First went to original immigration building (the one with the big car park at the back), up the steps and inside. Asked the roving guard for directions to the immigration dept that deals with passports. Sent to another building!!
Second - Go into next building (if you are in the original building leave by the front door and look to your left - there you will see another large building across the other side of the road) and try to find anyone - place deserted.
Eventually get accosted by large guy who wants to know what we want, told him we have new passports and wish to register them. Go upstairs to first floor and first door on right.
First door on right has notice on it saying it deals with residency - we asked a guy who was outside (he had just popped out of another door on that floor) if we had the right door. NO, he told us we need to go back the original building and ask at the information desk but that we would need photocopies of our new passports to give to them.
Back to the cattle market - sorry information desk - and fight our way to the guy who can't speak English, we are just lucky like that lol. He checks all our details on his system then calls the lady forward.
She asks what we want. We tell her we have new passports and wish to register them and get a new Stay Pass. Much Turkish exchanged between man and lady. Bottom line!!!!!!!!
If you have a VALID Stay Permit and you get a new passport you don't have to do anything until you renew your residency!!!! You are free to leave and return as normal.
So there you have it, correct as going to press at 15:57 today - best of luck people.
