The President of the TRNC Nurses and Midwives' Union, Oğuz Köse, has said that his members will strike on Monday in a protest over manning numbers.
Two examples of this undermanning, given by Köse, are Iskele's Health Centre and two sections of Girne's Akçiçek Hospital, which have been unable to operate for some time.
The union has spoken with Özkan Yorgancıoğlu, leader of the main opposition party CTP about this matter, and Yorgancıoğlu has said he will raise the matter in Parliament.

It's not in the report, but a somewhat cynical TC acquaintance of mine has told me this apparent lack of trained qualified nursing staff is because the Ministry of Health's department that deal with this would like to appoint UBP supporters ... and amongst these caring people there's not enough UBP supporters.

What a shame that politics can result in a strike by the caring professions.

I have the highest regard for the doctors and nurses here in the T R N C. I do not know what they earn for their labours but I dare bet that it is not sufficient considering their training years and dedication.

Sue, as in teaching, those in the government sector here earn more than those in the private sector - that is why it seems a little strange that they can't find enough nurses ... maybe, as said by my more "cynical TC acquaintance", it has to more to do with the political allegiance of the nurses.
