The incidents earlier this evening in the village square would appear to have been because of an arguement between members of two families ; the Taş family and the Kuloğlu family ... an arguement which resuled in the death of 50-year-old Bekir Kuloğlu, the serious maiming of 26-year-old Hasan Kuloğlu, the stabbing in the leg of 80-year-old Ahmet Taş and the arrests of 21-year-old Umut Taş and 16-year-old M. Taş.

how terrible. Wonder what it was over. Sounds very tragic! \it does seem that crime is on the increase here - or is it my imagination. Just very sad .

We are experiencing a cultural and sociological metamorphosis - thanks to his highness Mr Erdoğan who gifted us with the peasants of his most religious supporters! And do they fear God

Earlier reports did say the incident occurred in front of a betting shop, but in later reports it only mentions the
Tanık barber shop ... but we still don't have all the details.

Big Oz, it's very likely they indeed were mainlanders, but do we we know that for certain?

"Maimed" is normally used to describe someone who has been scarred or disfigured for life - we don't know that - it would have been more appropriate if I had written "serious wounding".

More details are emerging about the incident
Apparently members of the Taş family; 80-year-old Ahmet Taş, 21-year-old Umut Taş and 16-year-old M Taş, descended upon the Kuloğlus' barber shop, to "discuss" a matter "about a woman".
Minutes later 50-year old Bekir Kuloğlu and his son, Hasan Kuloğlu, had been shot in the head, the father fatally and the son seriously injured. Also 80 year-old Ahmet Taş had been stabbed in the chest, though not seriously.
Apparently a few hours after the incident, 21-year-old Umut Taş handed himself and the gun over at the police station. Later, his younger brother M Taş was also taken into custody.
As Big Oz writes, these are not normal events for North Cyprus.
In the report, it also tells us that last March, 26-year-old Hasan Kuloğlu seriously assaulted his then girlfriend. It is not clear if the two events are related.

This morning the court there decided to remand the grandfather Ahmet Taş, the father Mehmet Taş, and the two sons Umut and Mehmet Salih Taş in custody awaiting trial in "3 days' time" - which I presume would be on Tuesday.
