Morning All
Had an interesting visit yesterday.
People asking who my pool cleaning company are and did I know if they were registered. Also have I ever been given receipts from them.
I told and showed him all he wanted to know and he was happy Yes we know this company and all ok they said.
When I asked why the visit they informed me of this.
They know there are a lot of Pakistani pool cleaners going around and they are NOT LISCENCED TO WORK HERE.
If they are caught cleaning YOUR pool then you can be liable for the due taxes.
Please be aware of who is cleaning your pool . They may be cheaper but only untill caught.

Pool cleaning here in the TRNC seems to have become what in UK is cleaning windows when you stop for lights or working in a car wash. I doubt very much if those guys are registered either. My guy, a TC, has worked for me for 8 years, but heaven only know whether he's legal. He just brings a couple of Pakistanis with him who do the actual work.

Thanks Tanky. I know that my pool guy is legally registered and pays taxes. He does employ various foreigners at times, but only when he has sorted out their legal status. I honestly didn't know that you could be charged personally for using illegal workmen, so a warning to us all for everything.

Totally agree, if the company is legal, surely it's their look out, maybe Tanky is highlighting the one man band who may not have the legal status.

Agree with you SND. I know for a fact that my guy gets his foreigners sorted out legally before using them. He was well fed up when one guy left him after a few weeks to go elsewhere, after all the hassle he'd had getting him all sorted with a work permit.
I think Tanky is warning us all to check that workmen that we use are registered, or we may be liable to pay a fine, and I don't imagine that will be cheap.

It is not only pool cleaning ,its virtually anything and everything. Painting, gardening, cleaning. Also the ones who are working legally are moonlighting at every opportunity they get.

They are contributing very little to the economy , many living five to one room and sending most of their money back home. Well done to the goverment for trying to crack down on this. If only the U.K. would follow suit.

For those of you who reside in TRNC, IF able to do so, why not do the pool maintenance yourselves? If vacuuming and skimming is (can be) tough going depending on size of pool, invest in a robotic cleaner and robotic skimmer. Monitoring chlorine and PH levels is simple, adjusting is simple too. You just need to know your pool size and how many tonnes of water it holds and with research in google, easy to find how many spoonfuls chlorine or PH to add. Food for thought

I think we will see more of this as the country needs to raise more tax...i dont think pakistanis should be singled out..thats leaning to racism..how many turkish iranian ussr and dare i say british are not paying tax...the black market here is huge....

I certainly know of some british cleaners working for cash..illegal estate agents etc..

Suggesting pakistani workers contribute nothing to the economy is an uneducated perspective imo..they are not here claiming benefits like some other countries i can think of ..

& That they live in squalor to enable to send money to their families ...better than lying on the street begging in other countries..im in uk.now ive not seen any pakistani beggars plenty of white trash drug addicts

On this subject, Pakistani or Turkish, those who work for pool maintenance companies ARE (not all), taking on private jobs

Theres a dichitomy here i see many threads about prices and people wanting a cheap pint etc..

If everyone was legit abd tcs controlled everything prices would rocket further with little competition..
