TRNC Post Codes

Unfortunately TRNC may still not be internationally recognised, but apparently its new post codes are , and so should be used when making internet purchases. Click on the link, and if you live in or around Girne, then you'll have to scroll about half way down the page to find your new code:

But Dippersgirl you do have a post code - it would be 99900 or 99890.

I can't make it out at all, first all the adverts blotted everything out, then masses of the writing is repeated over and over again i.e. what is scaffolding, scaffolding, scaffolding and since when do we call Guzelyurt Morphou, Morphou, Morphou, I thought it was the Greeks that did that. Is it just me, or is it totally incomprehensible?

Sophie, I presume you used something like "google-translate" - "scaffolding" and "pier" are the English translations of "iskele", but of course "Iskele" is the region to the north-east of Cyprus. If you look at the original, I think it will be clearer for you.

Basically it is a list of towns (I have got Guzelyurt btw) followed by surrounding villages , divided and sometimes subdivided into areas and "neighbourhoods" (assuming "Mah" is short for "Mahalle") Some - eg. "Coal Merchant's Village" fascinating.

What I dont understand is that the numbers are a different configuration from Post or Zip numbers and one digit shorter. Will internet and Post Office computers accept them, or is there another code to be added to indicate TRNC?

It is indeed RR.
Rambling Rose wrote: Is there another code to be added to indicate TRNC?
RR, the 99*** indicates it is TRNC. Hopefully this 5-digit number will be compatible with the "systems" you mentioned ...

perhaps it is my old eyes but I cannot see Karsiyaka on this list, are we lumped in with Girne?

suehowlittle wrote: I cannot see Karsiyaka on this list

Sue, there are two codes for Lapta (which incorporates Karşıyaka) :
99420 for those neighbourhoods within about 3 miles of the village square, and 99440 for areas (of Lapta) further west and on the southside of the mountain.

For the record, in the original link, it does in fact write
"KKTC Girne Lapta Karşıyaka Köyü 99440"

Has anyone located Alsancak yet, or are we also under Lapta

These look like the post codes used in Germany, also five figures, i.e. Cologne is 5, and my sister's code is 50937

The Dog Walker wrote:Has anyone located Alsancak yet, or are we also under Lapta
Alsancak, Çağlayan District : 99350
Alsancak, Yayla-Deniz Kız District : 99350
Alsancak, Yeşilova District : 99350

Alsancak, village of Ilgaz Köyü : 99360
Alsancak, vilages of Malatya and İncesu : 99360
Alsancak, village of Yeşiltepe : 99360

I presume then that the post codes of places near the centre of Alsancak and down to the coast are 99350, and those a little further out and/or up the mountain are 99360. I hope that helps you TDW.

Thanks for the information, do you know if this means we just write our new postcode and stop using Mersin 10?

Actually no Sue, if you live closer to Karşıyaka, then it's 99440.
Emineden wrote:Do you know if this means we just write our new postcode and stop using Mersin 10?.
No Emineden, you should continue using Mersin 10.

If we have to continue using Mersin 1- WHEN do we use the others? Do I gather that is just for any internet purchases when they do a drop down menu? Gets more complicated daily!! the only stuff I buy on the net is books for out here, and they go to the next person coming over - so hopefully I wont have to get myself too muddled!! Is it needed if you are buying on the net for someone's birthday somewhere else and you have to put your address?

That would seem to be the main reason Mamachina, but the minister responsible did also say it would speed up postal deliveries a little.

So until further notice they best thing is to put both Mersin l0 and the Post Code?

If I may impose on your patience a little further Ian, but this may well apply to others. I thought I was laughing because Ozanköy is simple. Then I realised I still have some post going to the PO Box in Girne! Am I correct in thinking that would come under Girne İlçesi (Administrative District) and the number listed against Girne, Girne 99300 is the right one?. (The layout is a bit confusing!)

I'm not 100% certain RR, but I presume for the post box you would use the post code of the post office ie. 99300.

Today I placed another order with Amazon (yes they do deliver) and I thought I try the new post code. I altered my address to:

Name
Road
Dipkarpaz, Iskele
Mersin10
Postcode 99890
Turkey

Is that right???

I'm sure that's fine Dippersgirl, but I would put the post code before Mersin 10, ie.
Iskele 99890
Mersin 10
Turkey

Ham and brown
It takes about a couple of weeks to come, Half of that is on this island. I can see that from the date stamps. There is always one from Nicosia, then one from Famagusta and then Dipkarpaz, but hey........ it gets here. The postage is quite expensive!! I have a kindle, so only order books I can't get otherwise, or with pictures. Make sure they come from Amazon themselves.

For those who . like me. still find it easier to work off the printed page, Cyprus Today midweek has a list of the codes in English. According the the article the Universal Postal Union based in Bern, Switzerland so according to the PO Director "We are now integrated in the World".

They give details of special arrangements for parcels and the postal website from where you can now track your post.

PS NO, CT did not pay me to post this - I dont even usually buy the midweek edition - it was an impulse that mst have been inspired!

Has any one used the New Post Code System yet, if so was it of any use ie did your mail arrive quicker .

I placed two orders with Amazon recently, one without the new postcode, order placed 31.01.13 arrived in Dipkarpaz 18.02.13
the other one placed 11.02.13 with new postcode arrived Dipkarpaz, 20.02.13
A lot of the days are spent here going from Nicosia - Famagusta - Dipkarpaz, but the post code halved the time all the same!!!

Mersin10
Postcode 99890
Turkey
Or this.

Iskele 99890
Mersin 10
Turkey

According to the newspaper article about it, you put the postode under Mersin 10, the article also says you can go to http://www.posta.gov.tc.tr or more info.

I am assuming you still put Mersin 10 Postcode 99890 Turkey.
Or Mersin 10 Postcode 99890 North Cyprus

Re: TRNC Post Codes

I would use Turkey if posting from abroad, and KKTC if internal. Guess things will change in the future, and will then probably omit the Mersin 10.

just tried the link it didn't work, but I discovered it should be http://www.posta.gov.ct.tr/

It claims an English version, but yavaş, yavaş and other than giving a list of the post codes it gives no info on how the 'new' address should look

I never put North Cyprus

I put Dipkarpaz, Iskele, Mersin 10, 99890, Turkey

Do you agree, Soner???

I have been putting off notifying people of the addition of the postcode (a surprisingly big excercise) until I was sure it was going to work. I should be grateful if anyone else could let us know if they have used it successfully and if there is any further news about where in the address it should appear.

I received a "test letter" from UK today with the postcode - despite the sender forgetting to put "Mersin l0" it took a week, which included one day from Lefkosa to Girne and one from Girne to Ozankoy. The Girne to Ozankoy is fortuitous as I understand Girne only deliver post to Ozankoy once a week.

I would still be interested in hearing others' experiences in case this was a flash in the pan.!
