Having given in to the temptation of buying a Cyprus today ( I had sworn I would never pay another 4 tl for it ).I was compşetely shocked to read in the headlines the 17 year old who brutally stabbed and killed them both, brutally, is under consideration to be freed after only 7 years. My god what sort of justice is this. How on earth must their family feel.
Also I cannot believe no one has posted a comment on this.
He took away a lovely couples right to live and be with their families.

foodie,
There has been a debate about this on another forum.
Generally opinion is that if he is released it puts very little value on the meaning of life.
I remember reading the details of this brutal murder at the time and it was truely shocking.
Very much like in the UK where you get early release for good behaviour!
Wasn't much of that when they commited the crime that warranted a prison sentence was there?
My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victims, they must be horrified knowing that he can carry on his life when they have a lifetime of heartache at the loss of not one but two loved ones.

Anne & Reece looked after this lad, they helped him with his education books, cloths ect.
He should stay in prison for the full 20 years.
Anne & Reece were a popular couple and are missed by a lot of locals and expats.

Yes Karmels, I know and they were the life and soul of a party and both very sadly missed. They took him under their wing. I think of them often and feel really sorry for their loved ones. Disgusting to think he may be released soon.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but for the record there has been no mention of Deynekli's early release on the TRNC news web sites that I browse.
I agree with
Karmels - Deynekli should complete all 20 years of his sentence.

Letting him out of prison already is a shocking slap in the face for everyone. It cheapens the value of not one life but two very kind human beings who suffered horribly at this man's hands.
I am actually in favour of the death penalty for such crimes.
Does anyone believe that this person can once again take his place in the community?
Would any of you want him to live in your neighbourhood?
I thought prison sentences here were harsh enough to deter others from committing the same crimes. Obviously, I got that wrong.
Very sad state of affairs.

Philoz.
Anne & Reece where a couple who had lived in the TRNC for a long time.
They worked endlessly to raise money for charity, and were the heart and sole of any party.
To this end they took this young man under their wing and provided a income via gardening for him and his father.
They also provided this young man with school books and clothes.
One night in the early hours the young man and one other ( maybe the father ) removed the fuse to their house causing a power cut.
Anne & Reeces bedroom had to be accessed from a stair outside.
One can only imagine what happened, Reece went to check why there was no power, Anne followed for some reason??
They were both found on their doorstep buy the cleaner in the morning, Reece had been stabbed and died quite quick according to police report, Anne died also of stab wounds but died slowly due to loss of blood.
This may give you some insight to why the people who new Anne & Reece would rather this person spends the full term in prison.
God bless them.
Mel.

Thank you Karmels.
That is indeed terrible.
What makes it worse is the fact that they had gone out of their way to help someone.
I fully agree that the guilty party should serve their full time.

I am truly appalled by the thought that this man might be released, it places 3.5 years for the murder of each person, when he was supposed to serve a minimum of 20. (In my opinion he should have got 60 years which I understand can be given for 1st degree murder but is rarely handed out)
I know the person who cleaned up the blood which was dried on hard by the time she went to work, the outline of the bodies was still where they had bled to death. She also removed the rubber gloves used by the police. They were covered in dried blood and just thrown away in the bushes. If she hadn't have done this, the family would have found it just as the police left it. The older man (I think he might have been the younger mans Uncle, but I'm not sure) hot footed it back to Turkey as soon as he was able. Ann and Reece were the driving force behind fund raising for KAR and they adored their dogs. It was always assumed that he thought he would find money in the house.

Sad isn't it? 9 or 10 messages on the possibility of a murderer being released early and 20 messages about a Fish and Chip shop. Just goes to show peoples priorities doesn't it?

Sophie,
Thats a bit harsh,I for one have never heard of Ann or Reece until I read of their good charity works, with your comparison of fish and chips, most if not all brits could be expected to view that topic.
Condolences to all members of their family,RIP.

I must say that when I read that this lad was to possibly be released, for once words failed me,I knew both Ann & Reece, not very well, but enough the know that their dedication to helping KAR was unquestionable.Fortunately they are remembered each year at the annual dog show, when a trophy presentation is made in their memory.
Sorry if this is a little of topic, but personally I would have hung the little -------

We arrived here in the TRNC in 2007 and we ended up with one of Ann and Reece's dogs, Amy. She was quite old at that time and she was an adorable girlie until her death in 2010. We still have the Vet's book for Amy with Ann and Reece's names in it. It gives me the shudders to think what happened to this couple and we have heard so much about them from folk who knew them.
I agree with all the above comments about 'life' should mean more than a few years in prison but it's not dissimilar to the UK. I worked in various prisons for many years and knew many that acquired their parole at 10 years.
