Limescale in internal pipework

We have had on-going problems with a washing machine and Arcelik have advised that limescale in the pipework from the cold water tank on the roof is the cause, and have suggested draining the tank, cleaning it, and running some sort of de-scaler through it. Has anyone had any similar experiences, and what would you suggest running through the system to try and de-scale the pipes. Many thanks.

You really need to speak to a good UK plummer, they will advise you on the best way to correct this problem.

I have found that the cartridge system that you fit to your main pipe really does work,and doesn't cost the earth.
The cartridges are about TL 50 and I think last about a year.

I was having trouble with my combi boiler. Plumber said he needed to get a recirculating machine to descale the heat exchanger but got it working a little better. I put 1 kg of pool acid granules in my tank which is 5 tonnes and used it normally till the tank was empty took about 3 weeks. I got piles of limescale out of the system and now the water is as hot as I have ever known and the boiler is on its lowest setting. We used the water as normal for showers etc, my skin may have been slightly drier than normal. We used fresh mains for all consumable water though. There has also been a marked difference in the amount of scale in the tap nozzles too. Worth a thought.

Philoz, please elaborate! What is it, and where can you get one?
Jonnie, great idea, thanks for telling us. Just one thing, where did the limescale come out of the system?

Hippo, came out of the taps, we took the filter bits off the ends, leave them off for the duration. Will look to have a clear out 2 times a year and use the clock change as a reminder!
