At least the money will go direct to Kibtek they wont have to wait for the councils to pay it to them if they ever do. Seems quite a lot though but my water bill went down this week by 3tl. Oh goody.

Checking my water bill, I see there is a charge of 6.67TL every other month for AYDINLTMA = Lighting. Just received my water bill today and the charge was missing when it would normally be charged.
So it looks as though the Beli has dropped the charge for street lighting but it remains to be seen here in Lapta how much Kibtek will hit us for!!!!

Actually if you need the lgcnews.com article, the belediye can still charge you for lighting, some may choose not do do so.

The basis for charging is per meter owned so is not linked to service provided at all.

Even Dipkarpaz is doing this, but then for some reason we have a street light right next to our house
Our drive is probably 50m to our gate and the road.
Saves us putting on the outside houselight.

Is this charge added on every month ?
Does this mean that on top of this charge I will also pay standard charge per month ?

So in my case does it will mean 18tl per month standing charge plus new charge of let us say 16tl.

Does this mean I will pay approx 34tl per month before I use any electric units ? Have I got this right ?

tutor4U. If you query the fact that you don't have street lighting, the answer you receive will be that you are paying for lights in the streets that do have lights (in our case the main Lapta/Girne road) because we drive on those roads!!

I should have ended by saying that was the reply we got for 8 years, but now have street lights. It took all that time of pestering to get them though.

I read the original article in LGC news.
The new lighting charges are per meter per month.
The belediye will still have the right to charge for lighting too. I think their argument was that they were responsible for part of the lighting expense, infrastructure i believe.

We don't have street lighting and I pray it remains that way. One of my greatest joys here in Cyprus is the brilliant night skies. Because of light pollution there are less and less places in the world where they can be enjoyed and I hope my garden remains one of them.

If the argument is we all use the lights in the streets everywhere then why are we all paying different amounts ? everyone should be paying the same amount ! another TRNC rip-off,

Totally agree Munchkin. Another comment is why are some on the same road paying this charge and others on the same road albeit the other side of the road opposite the lights NOT PAYING IT. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has the same on their streets.

Another thought maybe Marion or someone could get a reply and post it in the paper as to why this is happening as all we get is a shrug and told that is how it is.
