Looking for

(1)somewhere reasonable priced for single lady with some mobiity problems to stay for a couple of weeks within easy reach of Ozankoy with car parking facilities. She is very interested in food and coooking and ideally would like somewhere Cypriot run where she could experience Cypriot food, I cant think of anywhere - any ideas? Also Cypriot resteraunts preferably ones that dont have the restaurant three floors up fromthe loos!

I think she is thinking of something like a French pension or better type English B & B or Farmhouse accommodation but I am not sure such were ever part of the culture here.

(2) Failing above anyknow of anywhere suitable near Famagusta (Boğas
as area perhaps) or in the |Karpas for a few days stay.

I know what you mean, as I see this personal as a female version of my husband and appreciate the problems involved. Off hand I cannot think of anywhere - although hopefully some KibKomer will- but I will make enquiries from people in the area and the travel business to see what might be recommended.

Good luck with it all.

What about the Paradise Bungalows in Ozankoy, went there many years ago, family were very friendly. not sure about the Cypriot food availability though, but central to get to other places.

Just looked on tripadvisor and it seems they do Cypriot food, almost all of the reviews are good.

How about Five Fingers Bungalows, Ozankoy which I believe is run by a cypriot family and if the name is at it suggests they should be bungalows

Thank Marion : If you hear of anything please let me know. Yes, it is so sad that there is so little provision for the disabled and even those with minor mobility problems and that nobody really seems to care. I think in this case however the greater difficulty is going to be to find anything traditionally Cypriot! I am starting to have cold feet about the project - it seems that thelady will arrive expecting the unspoiled part of a med. island with a unique culture that I used to know and love only the find Little Blighty in the Sun!

Thanks also to the others for their suggestions. Unfortunately the last time I visited Paradise they were serving hamburgers and hot dogs to the sound of loud American music and installing a wide screen to show UK football! it put me off and is certainly not what the lady has in mind! However I will visit again in case they have a change of heart.

Five Fingers Bungalows are actually a sort of chalet with the bedroom on a sort of galllery up with narrow steps and they serve mainly food for English tastes. However Arif has said that he will be very pleased to cook Cypriotdishes on request, so its on the list. The main snag is though probably idea for a family or an active couple , it is a bit small and sisolated for a lady on her own with walking difficulties who might want to spend a quiet evening or two "at home", and Ozankoy village is a lonely unit walk, and not exactly a hive of activity anyway unless you want to doa pub crawl! It is closed till April btw if anyone is thinking of visiting.

Oh dear. It sounds as if what she needs is one of those littl eplace son the KaRPAZ (dIPKARPAZ) where there are little chalets with all mod cons and local dishes served, but it is all a long way away from everything. Presumably the lady wants to be near you RR? I agree with you that 'things ain't what they used to be' as to the quaintness etc. Very little left. Of course the hotel Tervetuloa is real Cypritot, but the rooms up upstairs and it is at Alsancak. it does osund a bit challenging.

As to people with bad mobility, my Alan always says 'They don't want you!' and although I tryu to reassure him otherwise, one can see why he says it.

Will continue to try to think, but..... at the moment am a bit brain dead.

She would be well catered for at the Pia Bella Hotel we stayed recently and there were people in wheelchairs and mobility problems, the staff went out of their way to make sure they didn't have problems getting to bedrooms or the restaurant. There is always a good choice of food at the breakfast & evening meals with cypriot food usually one of the choices, they have excellent chefs if you want anything you only need to ask the restaurant manager and he aranges it for you. There is a tv lounge with comfortable seating and a bar. There is car hire at the Hotel and a large car park at the back. There is a special disabilty room also.

For the restaurant recommendation for Cypriot food with easy access, the best is Ikimiz. They don't cater for the Brits, only do Cypriot food and have never even had chips with anything there. Wonderful mother and daughter business, like being in someone's home for dinner.

For accommodation I am reliably informed that the Yalin Guest house in Girne , near HSBC is an ideal place run by a Turkish Cypriot lady .
Yalın Guest House
http://www.yalinguesthouse.com

Don`t think they have any English guests but the proprietor definitely speaks English. Also not sure if there are any bedrooms on the ground floor but maybe you can contact direct. Plus the food is typically Cypriot too.

Ikimiz restaurant is in the Turkish quarter of Girne and , yes , is highly recommended for Cypriot food.

Hope this is off some help.
