After reading all about the price hikes at Ercan Airport, does anyone know the new long stay parking charges now.

Hi Ozangirl. Bloody hell that's a bit of a steep increase eh.
Just read somewhere that the car rental firms here have had massive price increases for their allocated places at the airport.
This will be a big boost for the tourist trade here "Not"
Read it here.

Tiga motors is cheaper than that. Take you car to their office , they take you to the airport, they store the car in their SECURE parking area, valet the car, then pick you up.
So Ercan will def lose out.

Totally agree. We won't be parking there anymore I would rather pay a friend/neighbor to drop us off or get a taxi - much cheaper!

Quoting myself from this thread
http://www.kibkomnorthcyprusforum.com/v ... can#p27857
"Seeing as the new charges are not on the airport's website, I decided, on leaving Cyprus last week, to take a photo of the board at the car park - Unfortunately you can't see everything on the attachment below, but at the top it writes
15 minutes to 1 hour - 6 TL. And at the bottom it writes
10 TL for each additional day."
So, to give you an example of some "long-stay charges" :
7-days-and-1-minute to 8 days = 85 TL
14-days-and-1-minute to 15 days = 155 TL (as paid by
Mollie the Cat - see msg 4)
21-days-and-1-minute to 22 days = 225 TL
In
Mollie's case that's an increase of more than 80% on what she would have paid before However, trying to be positive, it's still cheaper than at Heathrow ...

Why does everyone insist on comparing prices to Heathrow (or UK in general). We are not in the UK we are in North Cyprus and the cost of living is lower and the salaries are lower, it needs to be looked at in relation to those factors. Then (and I'm not sure if it's right or not) it might well be more expensive in real terms than Heathrow or UK,or it might still be cheaper who knows.

Fair point
Zarafet. Indeed the salaries are lower here, so you would have thought the "locals" would be very upset about the increases ...

HI Zarafet
I have been looking at parking at Stanstead when I come over in May for 12 days it was £114 on site or £ 109 with a 10 minuet bus ride, I could pay £235 ( reduced from £444 if i booked now I did it for summer for 4 weeks & the cheapest I could gat war £387
The problem is you become a captive ordinance once your there your caught
I Have however found a site in the UK called Park on my drive that was for the same period in summer its £105.00. in may its £53 but I will need a taxi which will be £15 each way
I dont trust Airports a few years ago when I lived is Sheffield I had to fly form Birmingham parking close to the airport at a place called Macadown lane, there was space for 2-300 cars, before I parked up my car I filed it up as My return flight was landing in the early hours
After my holiday I retuned to my car to find the tank 3/4 full and a dent on my nearside back panel, I complained and was told in no certain terms that this was a scam they got all the time and were used to, they basically called me lier
I informed them that that I had filled my car and had proof of this, also OI had noticed they had security cameras so there may be evidence to prove my car did leave the compound and that I was going to hand the matter over to the police
Within 4 day i received a letter explaining that they had checked their CCTV and my car had in fact left the compound and the culprit had been sacked I received £50 compensation but they would not except liability for the dented panel

We are flying from Heathrow next week. The total cost of parking (Terminal 4 long-stay car park) for 16 days is £81.40. Admittedly, this involves a short bus ride to the terminal, which is included in the price. We have booked car parking at Stansted (end of May) for 4 weeks and 4 days and this cost £91.12. Again, a short bus ride to the terminal is involved (included in the price). We have tried to book Stansted again for September but so far have only come up with a price of £256.00 for 4 weeks and 3 days. I cannot explain the difference in prices for May and September but think we may ask a friend for a lift in September!
I would say these prices compare favourably with parking charges at Ercan airport?

Ozankoyboy, my post wasn't about whether it was safer at either destination or costs incurred therein. It was about the fact that in real terms when you take the different salaries and costs of living then Ercan's charges may well be more expensive than the UK. I googled average salaries in UK and last year it came out at £26,500 here in North Cyprus the average wage is around 1500 turkish lire now, I think. So as I said, if people insist on relating it to UK prices they need to factor this into the equation and put it as a percentage of average salary. I agree UK airport can be a problem with cars being used, but I've always used Purple Parking and never had a problem.

I completely agree that you cannot compare prices here in the TRNC with prices in the UK. Unfortunately people seem to do it all the time. There are so many factors that need to be taken into consideration.

As I wrote guys, I was merely trying to be positive - I often feel, especially on this forum, too many of us complain too often about the place I now like to call home.
