Several weeks back I posted a query about the above, I needed as I was found to have cataracts in both eyes. I was recommended a Dr Mustafa GÜvenir in Lefkosia. I had my first eye treated on Thursday. The cataract was removed and a eye lens was inserted. Not at all a painful procedure, a bit uncomfortable at times, it only took about 30 mins. I had a large dressing applied, then had to return the next day. When it was removed I had drops put in my eye and the doctor tested them. I have to go back in 2 weeks time for a check up. Meanwhile I still have a bit of hazziness but am assured this will clear after the drops I am having put in 6 times a day for 2 weeks.
I am to keep it dry for this period as well in case of infection. I have worn glasses all my life as I was shortsighted, now I cannot believe what I have been missing all these years, I can see everything so clear and bright, I never thought my eyes were so bad. Only downside I will have to wear glasses for reading ( a thing I didn't have to do before ) but I can put up with that !. The cost for the one eye was 80tl for the initial appointment and 1500tl for the surgery and follow up appointments included. I will be having my other one done next month.
Doctor Mustafa GÜvenir speaks perfect English and explains all the procedures to you. If you do make an appointment to see him you will see what a popular doctor he is by the many patients and the receptionist always busily answering phones. Hi Foodie, I had the same done privately in the UK. When I had the consultation I specifically indicated that I did not want to wear any glasses, including for reading. They prescribed these new multi-focal lenses, which give me excellent long distance, intermediate and reading vision. Yes the procedure was painless and had to protect eyes for 2 weeks to avoid infection. The downside if any is at night time whereby I can see glare from lights and sometimes halo's (bright circles from light hitting the rim of the lens) but the brain gets used to this and eliminates them from your vision with time. However the glare is still there one year on, it can be fixed by changing one of the multi-focal lenses to a normal lens, but I would then need to then have reading glasses. I feel that the glare is not too bad as I can deal with it and with time it may reduce further. My sight was not too bad, but I needed 3 sets of glasses, which was a pain switching constantly throughout the day.

Good luck with the next op, do ask about the multi-focal option, but the optician will know best, it may not be suitable in your case.
