Hotmail problems

Today we have had problems connecting with hotmail and our network provider said that it was not restricting access. The only way we can, at the moment connect to our hotmail is by downloading ex pat shield.

I do not particularly like ex pat shield so after I have read my e.mails I disconnect it.

G mail is running fine.

I use Google chrome but also have Internet explorer loaded as a stand by , but hotmail didn`t work on that either.

No problems before today.

I see from lemon grove others had problems but have other Kibkomers?

There would appear to a general problem with hotmail / outlook mail at the moment. It is not affecting all users but does seem to be affecting a singnifcant number.

and third part monitoring site here

MS own status reporting site https://status.live.com/ is claming no problems with hotmail (as I post the link now) but the links above show this is not the actual case as does MS support on twitter. http://twitter.com/MicrosoftHelps/with_replies

Just to update - if you go to the MS status page without logging in it shows no issues with hotmail or outlook.

If you go to the page and log into your account it then shows there is a current issue with outlook which reads

"There's a problem with Outlook right now.

After being informed that if I did not change over to Outlook voluntarily, they would change me over anyway, I tried it for a couple of weeks.

I found it 'messy' and disorganised and I frequently had problems accessing my emails, problems with emails etc etc. This was about a month ago.

I went back to hotmail and decided to stay there until they 'retired' hotmail altogether and I was forced to go back to Outlook.

It doesn't look good and I am considering going over to Gmail, anyone else on Gmail?

I would be grateful for any feedback.

I use Hotmail and Yahoo. Hotmail keep telling me if I want to use Messenger I should change or something, but as I dont, I havent!! Does this mean I am likely to lose Hotmail altogether eventually - major prob if so because of all the stored addresses!!! Apart from that, have had no problems at all recently.

Hi Ann I think you will find that Microsoft will migrate us all to Outlook eventually I am not a lover of it either. But it will mean that all your addresses etc will move over with you so there is nothing to worry about
best wishes

Already moved my Hotmail to Outlook, could see no point in waiting. From the e-mail sent by outlook I just clicked on the change now button and whhoosh it was done in seconds. The Outlook screen is slightly different to hotmail but intrinsically the same, all data old msgs etc is still in place.

I think the automatic change over date is next month but why wait, change now and get used to the new features sooner rather than later.

Problems over last few days now seem to have cleared up as well.

Just to chuck my 2 cents worth in.

I have gmail account, hotmail account and another account (cream.org) and 95% of the time I access them all through windows live mail client program on my PC. I personally do not like ANY web based mail interface vs a dedicated client interface. I only really use the web based interfaces when I am 'remote' from my own home PC, otherwise I use my single dedicated mail client for all my email accounts. In terms of reliablity and not 'user interface' in my experience gmail is more reliable than hotmail. The other thing I like about a gmail account is it's easy integration with android smartphones. As google make both android and gmail the integration between them is in my view very good.
