Card Making - help required, please

On 19th March 2013 at the Ravine Bar and Restaurant, Alsancak we have organised a ‘Card Making’ day, all we need now are willing volunteers to help recycle these cards.

If you have never made a card in your life, or at least since primary school (like us!!), it does not matter because we have a couple of people on hand who are experienced and they will be there to guide you, however, we would really appreciate a few more volunteers who have had experience in card making and who would be prepared to bring along their card making equipment/accessories to be used on the day.

We need as many volunteers as possible to help make the cards so whether you are a novice or an experienced card maker, please come along - we really need your help!

All materials will be supplied.

The Ravine has not only offered the use of their restaurant free of charge, but they are also offering to make a lunch of chicken goujons & chips or fish & chips for a mere 15TL of which they will donate 5TL to Tulips.

We will be starting at 10.30am and finishing approx 4pm so if you can spare a few hours between these times then we would be most grateful as we have a lot of cards to get through!

If you can help us then please contact us on: tulipscarole@yahoo.com or telephone 0533 873 1693.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who donated their used Christmas, Birthday, Mother's Day etc cards for recycling to sell in aid of Tulips. We are still collecting so if you have any then please drop them off at either of the Best Seller Bookstores or the Tulips stand at Chateau Lambousa on a saturday morning or contact us on the above.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Sue and Carole

gee I am still trying to get rid of the super glue I used last time (10 years ago!) but I will come along to see what problems I can cause for you all - but hopefully with a better kind of glue I won't get into trouble.

I need to be taught, but I am a quick learner (when not near Super Glue) and I hope that a lot of others will come along too - great idea!

thanks girls for arranging this.

Oh and is there anything we can bring to help. any old cards if we haven't given them to you? Our own supply of glue ()yes, I really DO seem to have a thing about that), or???????

We will supply the materials but if anyone has any that they wish to donate then please let us know.

Does anyone have a guillotine that we could borrow for the day? If so can they email us on tulipscarole@yahoo.com or telephone on 0533 873 1693.

We are still collecting cards but not just Christmas cards, they may be birthday, mothers day, fathers day, valentines day etc, we are taking in all types of cards.

Thanks. will see what I have that I can bear to part with. I am a sentimental 'fool' and can't bear to throw things away form people I love. Will need a bigger house soon.

But when it comes to donating things - what would help, please Scoobydoo. seriously - if you want glue, then what type, or do you want some glitter, glitter glue (oops here we go again), sparkly bits - what???? goodness knows what I have hidden in my drawers, and then of course I am always happy to raid Mr Pound, if I know what I am looking for!!!

Inspiration, please!

Back to the top please.

We have had a few volunteers but are still looking for more!

Marion, please rummage around in your draws for anything that you can find that will help us on the day. With regards to donating things for the day, I will speak to 'those that know', because I as I have said above, I have not made a card since primary school. I will then post on here.

Hi Sue, I think it would be nice if people have some spare envelopes lying around to donate, cards can be made to any size you want if someone is kind enough to lend a guillotine for the day, glitter in glue format or otherwise Marion, stickers, coloured card, ribbons, the list goes on all of these things can be used in card making, this is a very worthy cause, and we will require Christmas Cards next year, even though it seems so far away, there is not enough stockists in Northern Cyprus, so as well as helping others we will be helping ourselves, so come on Kibkomers even if you can't spare time on the day, lets all dig deep and help make this day a success!!!

Big Oz, i would NEVER tell what is hidden in my drawers - but I will have a look!

But please clarify. I thought it was not just Christmas cards, but presumably if people bring enough unwanted cards of all sorts, then we can make birthday, anniversary, etc, etc.

anyway, off to look in my drawers to see if I have anything really useful!!!!! No further comments!!!

oh and the idea for envelopes is a very good one.

Yes, if anyone has anything along the lines of Barbieb's msg 7, then please feel free to donate - Thanks Barb!

We will be making other 'event' cards ie birthday, mother's day etc, as well as Christmas cards as we have had a variety of used cards donated to us but predominantly Christmas cards. All 'non-Christmas cards' will be available for sale sooner rather than later.

Thank you to everyone that has already shown an interest in helping but we are still hoping for a few more of you

Sue

Thank you to everyone that has offered their services for the day so far, we are still looking for a few more volunteers as we said it does not matter if you have never made a card in your life (like me), we have people there who will guide us.

We need cutting mats, so if any one has one that we could borrow for the day because we do not want to damage the tables at the Ravine (we want to be able to use their place again )

We are also still looking for a few more volunteers so please get in touch if you can spare a few hours

Sue

Oh dear. I have a little goodies bag all ready to bring - you know some glue, and glitter glue, and more glitter glue. But I did not know about cutting mats. Valid point. But what are they made of????? would bring my own, if I could think of something to bring. Help!

Hi Marion,

Thank you for offering to bring some of your 'bits' along, that would be great.

A cutting mat will protect the table tops when people use a craft knife to cut around something, not sure what they are made of as this is not my area of expertise at all but they are sort of a rubberised mat that dressmakers, craft makers etc use to prevent work top damage.

If someone reading this can be more specific, I would appreciate it

I am going to see if I can get some off cuts of MDF from a kitchen and bedroom maker next week so that at least we have something to protect the table tops!

Wow. Knives! I use scissors! Will see if I have anything. I have only a macrame board (somewhere) but that is not hard enough to withstands knives!!!!

I am sure there are folk out there that can help with that. It is great that Ravine is letting you uswe the place for free, so the last thing anyone wants is to damage their (the bar's) property.

Hi Marion,

Please bring your scissors with you.

I have found some pieces of MDF, it's not ideal but it will protect the table tops from being damaged.

I think I will need a removal truck to get everything to the Ravine on the 19th!!

Just a small reminder to everyone who has kindly volunteered to come along (and to those who have yet to make their minds up ) to make greeting cards, that this is taking place this coming Tuesday from 10.30am to 4pm at the Ravine, Alsancak.

Don't forget you can have a fabulous Ravine lunch for 15TL of fish & chips or chicken goujon & chips (5TL is being donated to Tulips)

This is your chance to learn a new craft (like us) and help Tulips raise funds.

We look forward to seeing you there

Sue and Carole

Wow. The way you girls are advertising this I expect the Ravine to be bursting at the seams. And after a good fish and chip lunch, maybe some more seams will be bursting!

But I expect that some will be like me - for a few hours only, making a bit of a turnover (non apple) of the day.

Will forego lunch cos I don't eat chips, buit looking forward to meeting some lovely folk, using my glue (super or non super) and also getting a lovely story for the newspaper of how everyone here pitches in to help others.

So, the more bursting at the seams, the more the story will be true.

Of ocurse being like Peanuts, and hating morning,s I shan't see you until the afternoon.

THANK YOU' to everyone that turned up to offer their services on Tuesday. We had a fabulous day making over 200 cards that we can now sell in aid of Tulips plus new friends were made!

We had experienced card makers who generously gave up their time to show us 'newbies' what to do.

Due to the generosity of everyone who donated their used cards for us to recycle, we will have to have another card making day or 2 or 3 or 4! We will announce on here once we have arranged a day and hopefully we can encourage others to come along if only for a few hours.

We would also like to thank the Ravine who not only let us use their premises for free but also donated 5TL from every lunch sold on the day and we raised 70TL!

We look forward to seeing you all again at our next card making day.
