I think nearly everyone must have been at the amphitheatre last night, there were very few people on the forum. It was so bad that I was replying to my own posts

I have to agree with billywiz, the sound was 'off' on Saturday, it was very difficult to hear the lead singer most of the time due to the sound of the guitarist - such a shame but they were absolutely fab at the Malpas.
Brian and Corinna organised this as a surprise to everyone (I know some of you were in on it) but to have The Bohemians play FREE in aid of Tulips was just superb.

someone said the amphi was only half full, but I have seen some pics this morning and itt looks pretty full to me! apparently there were some disappointing issues as last year but more with externals, not the concert itself. As for me, everyone knows I am a square, and I flee at the first beat of a guitar - but for Bohemian fans that was a wonderful gesture on Sunday, especially those that survived nearly going over the edge on the mountain road in the Treasure Hunt!
But what I want to know is how much money was made for the orthpaedic association. Hope they publish that soon.

Marion,
no way was the amphitheatre only half full !!!!!, only the seats at the far sides were a little sparce.
We went last year, and it was a fantastic evening.
This year they seemed to have used a different sound company,( last year, I think they used
Cyproductions.). The sound was ''off'', I must admit.
The problems, it seems, were the fact that again, last year, they provided a very good bar, and sold
burgers and hotdogs.
This year, they only sold beers and eventually bottles of water. Such a shame, as the beledesi could
have made such a profit from the revenue.
The toilets on the right had side as you go in, were closed, therefore only the ones on the left were
able to be used. You can only imagine the queue for the ladies.............but to the organisers credit,
one poor lady was rushing around makiing sure that there was sufficient loo rolls, bless her.
Never mind, we still had a really good evening, and I'm sure they'll get it right next time,

Thanks F.F. Since I was told it was half empty I have seen photographs and realise that it was mjre than half full. In fact what you say is seen in the pics - middle full and extreme sides a little empty. I am glad because that means enough money must have been generated to ensure that the charity that signed the contract will not have made a loss. If the concert had not taken enough money the charity which was to receive theprofits would have had to pay out for expenses and got nothing in rteturn. So that is a HUGE relief, isn't it.
As to the bar and toilets, I think there is a problem because the Belediye let charities use the amphi for no fee, so they do not have thesame involvement as when it is something they are responsible for. And it upsets people when they can't buy a drink or spend a penny and the amphi is not exactly the place to , as friends of mine would say 'have a rural one'.
Glad you enjoyed it. I am sure it made a lkot of people happy. shame about the sound equipment, but of course that is a huge part of the expense of events, so maybe they went for a cheaper option that was not as good.

Marion,
Re your earlier mail, you will be pleased to learn a profit was confirmed by the Cyprus Turkish Orthopaedic Disability Foundation who organised the Bohemians Concert.
According to the Weekday edition of CT the net profit was just over 12k TL.

that's great news. I am sure that will be a very welcome sum to them. I know the guy in the wheelchair who is involved, he is also one of the genc Professionale - a great team of youngsters who fund raise and help charities . of course I have no idea of the costings involved on the night, but I expect some people will say they were expecting double or treble that figure. I think it is great if any charity gets a good sum of money to help them. And thanks for telling me. I don't read newspapers - well , hardly ever.

I went with some friends and was disappointed with the sound reproduction but most importantly the state of the approach to the Ampitheatre and the toilets. I have been told that because it was a charity event that the charity concerned get the venue for free but this does not excuse the lack of cleanliness or facilities.
Girne Belediye spent a lot of money building this place and it is something to be proud of so why don't they keep it so?

Reading all the adverse comments re the state of the Amphitheatre will it put people booking for ABBA ? Am having second thoughts myself.

I didn't go, but was talking to the person who was running around with the toilet roll. One of the ex pats on the Cheshire Home committee. She seemed a little peeved and quite rightly so. But the other problems of weeds was explained by the Mayor as something that does not get done until the rains stop - or they would have to do it more than once!!!!(No comment from me!). I think another problem was something to do with drinks etc, but do not know.
so, I reckon by Abba, the weeds will be gone and the winter greyness done away with.
But who am I to say - maybe I am more full of hope. But I do agree that a bit more pride in the place would not go amiss.

Someone I know is going to have a word in the right ear, re the 'weeds'.
Just a suggestion, could someone not be 'employed' at each event to keep the toilets clean, stocked up with paper, soap etc. This could be paid for by charging everyone 1tl to use the toilets.

Tell Richard Currie. He had the same problem last yea,r so should have learned a lesson out of that. Richard Currie or Hal Compton - they seem to be mainorganisers. But of course, it will apply only if they do it again in the future.
common sense really.

Dear MEL7348
Ref the deplorable condition of the Amphitheatre, both inside and out at the recent concert, please rest assured this will not be the case for MAMMA MIA The Concert.
The venue is, for this event, being paid for and we assure you all the mentioned issues will be resolved long before any client walks through the front gates on the night.
Toilet staff will also be employed to ensure they remain in a clean and usable condition all evening, (withuout charge of course, as suggested above).
Please also be assured, the sound and lighting arranged for this event is of an international level spec (some of which only arrived on the Island a few months ago) so again, this will not be an issue for this event.
We fully agree with the above comments re the condition of the Amphitheatre and will be doing all in our power to ensure it is presented in the condition we would all expect from such a stunning venue.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any further concerns via email:

Sorry to be confused... maybe that's not hard with me...
But reading post 10 - I note the poster (Marions) claims to know the organisers and the charity for which the funds were raised. However on a post by the same person on 3/April on the subject of The Bohemians a quote state...wow never heard of them!!!! Which of us is confused!
I do hope also that the remark about newpapers was a joke because the one for which the poster writes covered the event, thus why ask question here which can be supplied direct from the report in question!
I was there that night and must say that I feel sorry for the organisers who had to put up with and cope with the sad state of the venue and bar/food arrangements as supplied by the Belediyesi, still well done great show.

Sorry last post, but having looked up my old postings, and tried the Search facility, I cannot find my posting of 3rd April. It seems to have disappeared.
However, unless you can send me a copy (and how come you can find it and I can't - another piece of confusion) I am a bit on the dark here. What did I say? That I did not know the Mustafa Cicek Orthopaedic Organisation, or that I did not know the Bohemians, or I did not know the organisers. I did some homework and found out that the charity to benefit was the MCOO, ; the Bohemians I have heard of; and the organisers were a team of volunteer,s the two main ones of which, as i understand it, are Richard and Hal.
As to newspaper coverage - someone went along with their camera and did a report, but i KNOW NOTHING! I cover what I cover, and others cover other things.
But please enlighten me as to where I may have caused you confusion. time changes thing,s you know, and one can do some investigation.
One thing that is reassuring for many is what has been written concerning the Mama Mia event. this is, as mentioned, an evening of a different kind (price is higher, I believe) and the venue is being hired not given for free! Huge difference there.
But please, show me my posting of April that is lost.

Maybe just maybe it could be something to do with the fact that a few days after the ABBA concert they
Have a show of their own and feel Aswad should play in a nice clean venue..bet the bar is correctly stocked also Rt

Went last year - great! Went this year - enjoyed it just as much! For 25TL it was well worth it and I will go again and again and again, whenever I get the chance. The sound, could have been better but with my hearing getting worse, it could have been worse as well. The lighting, same applies. Missed the big screens at the back from last year - they made a big difference! The venue - hmmm! Lets say that 1500 people went, lets say 750 were blokes, lets say 10% could have helped by giving an hour only each to help clear the venue before the event - for free. Would it have improved the whole thing? I would be more than happy to donate an hour of my free time if needed for next years first event - for free, that's what its all about anyway. All we need is a bit of a plan and not to much organization to make all our lives better.

Yes l will also go again...great value at the price.
Understand that the organisers sent a report with photos to the mayor office and maybe this has help with recent clean up work. Also there was a wonderful report by Margaret Shears in the Cyprus Observer on the same subject...great coverage very factual.
I was also pleased to meet the lady who cleanrd the toilets and supplied paper. She is not a member of this site but has now read the various posts. She has asked that l pass on her thanks for all the kind remarks and comments. However she is a little up-set about comments and a conversation claimed by one poster and...
Would like it known that the talk never occurred nor was there a comment about being peeved off.
I for one do hope that this site does not fall victim to the same erroneous unsubstantial remour mill that blighted another now defunct site.

the lady in question has a deep hearted interest in the Cheshire Homes, as it was her father who started it all. and it must be extremely upsetting to see and hear all the detrimental stuff bandied about. the mistakes made were not of Cheshire Homes making, and the financial aspect went awry, and the Festival 11 itself as a whole did not quite go as hoped, but Cheshire Home needed that money, and it was a great boon. The hiring of the amphitheatre for free means no perks, but I do agree with the one who said they would willingly give an hour of their time tidying up before hand. perhaps the organisers of next year (if there is to be one) could ask for volunteers.
I do think that the lady running around with toilet rolls (which it sems I am not allowed to name! by inference) should get a real slap on the back by anyone when they next see her for doing things way beyond the call of duty.

The subject matter here is the amphitheatre and the relevancy of comment matter referring to the stated charity should be on the related post.
I totally agree that this lady should have a big also on her back and get all the congrats going...
All that she wish to be know is that the claimed conversation did not take place and thus the post referred is somewhat erroneous and heresy
