Kolan Hospital - Top Marks

Would just like to say, after being unexpectedly hospitalised for five days at Kolan, how very impressive it all is. Certainly on a par, if not better, than my experience in BUPA hospital. Staff are all courteous, kind and efficient, from top consultants and Doctors, receptionists, to the lovely ladies who bring meals 3 times a day, and those who come and clean the room twice a day. Meals were excellent, with Turkish style breakfast and two/three course cooked lunch and dinner. If hubby was around at mealtimes he got fed too! Room very very comfortable with en-suite, tv, telephone and fridge, plus a nice comfy sofa for visitors. Nurses were all very attentive, caring, and turned up the minute the button was pressed! I needed a number of blood tests, and scans, all carried out immediately, with very quick results and feedback. I really cannot praise it enough, I even had a visit from the Director, who wanted to know if I had everything I needed. Now, I am no-one special, but I certainly felt that I was being well treated and looked after. It is always a concern having to go into hospital, but have to say, I will have no qualms in future should the need arise. The hospital is very well equipped, with consultants on hand. My thanks also to my lovely Dr Silem from Green Clinic in Girne, who works part time at the Kolan. What a lovely, caring, and very thorough Doctor she is. Just thought I would share a very good experience, for anyone who may be a little concerned about healthcare here. And....I was pleasantly surprised with the cost.......not too bad at all.

Reading this makes me feel a lot better. I did like the hospital, when we visited it for a general check up.
Have to have some gall stones removed soon

Dippersgirl.....well, sorry to hear that, but hope you find the experience as good as mine. No one likes being in hospital that's for sure, but Kolan was as good as it could be....good luck with the op.....I am sure all will be well.

I experienced the same in Turkey, the minute I was admitted I had two doctors two nurses with me, ECG, blood tests, Xray and Ultra sound, within 1 hr I had been diagnosed as having gallstones but they couldn't operate as my Liver enzymes were too high. The room, the Care and catering facilities were the same, a bed settee in the room if Hubby wanted to stay, they even picked him up in an ambulance to bring him to the hospital for visiting and took him back to the Hotel, I was in three days at a cost of £2000 the Insurance paid but I would gladly have paid that myself for the treatment I was given.

Hi mrsgee

Glad everything went well for you. I was wondering if you could give directions to the Green Clinic.

Hi Numpty......Just past Pia Bella travelling into town, on the right opposite the junction that leads round the back of Pia Bella, you will see the sign for Green Clinic, down the road on the left. Dr Silem is excellent.

Msg 1, I agree that Dr Silem is a lovely, caring doctor. I visited her last week at the Kolan (75tl for consultation) and she spent a lot of time with me listening to my concerns about previous treatment and visits that I have had with other specialists and has taken me under her care.
Woodspeckie, £2k seems a lot without an operation, I wonder how much it costs to have the gallbladder removed here? Does anyone know?
Dippergirl, sorry to hear you have GB stones too, are you going to have the GB removed? I have about 6 large ones shown up on my ultrasound!
Regards, Mrs Snakes

I don't have any pains, don't feel any different. My mother and my grandmother had them too. They said I do not have to do anything at the moment but can have it done any time.
It is a keyhole operation and they just keep you in overnight.I just can't remember now, how much they said it would cost but I remember, if we had it done in England, both of us (I would not want to go on my own) would probably have to travel a couple of times at least and that the cost would be similar, what with flights, taxis both ways etc.
My initial immediate response was , "ohh no not here, must be in England", but thinking about it, I can't think of a better place.
