Power Cut at the Weekend

According to C2D we could very well have blackouts at the weekend unless a delivery of power station fuel arrives from Turkey by Friday. Finance Minister warns that prices could possibly rise again. It's all down to arguments between unions and the privatisation of the services.

It is all because this government could not run one in a brewery. It is their fault they appointed the senior managers at Kib Tek who then refused to chase the bad debts because the minister tells them not to. If you were a private investor would you buy the bankrupt of ideas organisation that is Kib Tek.

As an anti nationalisation voter I have to say public utilities should be just that - public - the clowns in government trying to privatise Kib Tek ought to be taken and put up against the wall otherwise we are all going to suffer in both the short and long term. Just look at Ercan!!!!

I agree with everything cyprusishome says, however, first things first, have just been out and stocked up with petrol for the jenny, and if all comes to nothing, I'm sure it will come in handy during the summer!!

Last week Kibtek said they had no money to pay for the diesel as none of the government offices had paid up for the money owing in spite of various cuts.

Why do people whinge and whine so much? If everything is so bad there is an alternative.

I have checked back over this thread and all that has been said is facts. ie we may be without electricity by the week end and the government are to blame - FACT!! I believe in freedom of speech and like all the other posters (do not know about you) have lived here long enough to be able to be critical of what is happening. I am sure you did the same in whatever country you came from?

Talk to any TC and they are more fed up of the situation than we are, even supporters of the current "leadership" have had enough but other than revolution there is nothing other than having a good moan in the coffee shop they can do.

Quite right cyprusishome, you tell them! Also, this inormation is very helpful for people that haven't read the papers, so that they know to charge everything up that needs charging and have enough gas or petrol for anything that needs it.

Dear Cyprushome,

Facts are fine but your crass comment about the 'government' and a 'brewery' is offensive to many in a Muslim nation. That is nothing to do with free speech its just rude and as a guest in this country you should be a litle more humble.

It should be possible to express disagreement, disapproval , even disgust without resorting to crass insults, and would be more effective.

But Stella makes the best points: this thread should be useful to warn people to be prepared.

On a positive note: I have just heard that a ship laden with "fuel" has arrived today from Turkey!!!! But I am not sure of my source : has anyone else heard anything.?

I find repeatedly announcements like this are nothing more than political posturing. I do thing the brewery comment is a little over the top but also the statement about this being a Muslim country is over the top so come on just keep it pleasant please.

Things here are much improved, I cannot remember the last time we had an extended power cut and the ones we have had have been down to infrastructure upgrades and on one occasion a vehicle accident.

So come on guys live life, it is only short and remember if the glass is half full of liquid it is half full of air so it is, technically always full!

silverfox I believe you are talking out of rear end, so there!"!!!

I have every right to an opinion and any comments I make on here I have probably said to our TC friends and I am positive that no TC on this forum are offended by my comments. I have as much right to make comments about the government here as I would in UK, it is not Iran or Saudi, get a life and chill out.

I do believe everyone other than silverfox is aware of how I feel about living here and the people and if anyone else thinks my comments are in bad taste I will resign from the forum immediatley. All except stellastar that is, she hates me!!!!!!

@Silverfox1-My understanding is that TRNC is secular, not Muslim Per Se, as is Turkey.
And there is a brewery in Gazimaguza that brews 'Gold Fassl'
The majority here may well be Muslim by birth, but that does not make it a Muslim country.
So I don't see any problems with CIH's comments that could offend anyone.
Indeed I welcome the useful warning re power cuts.

I wouldn't worry about power cuts. I bought a generator after losing a freezer full of food at last winters cuts and it has yet to be used in anger. £1000 insurance policy so there won't be any long cuts now I have spent my money

Power cuts are a very serious issue for vulnerable and frail people. The least we can do is to help each other - if only by posting up to date information on the situation.

Please dont spoil it by private bickering - otherwise teacher will come and slap you wrists and close the thread!

CiH I think you let your understandable frustration come over too much in the way you phrased your post, but I probably agree with what you said about privatisation, because I know something about what happened in the UK. If you want to dicuss the issue of public versus private sector control of public utilities, why dont you start a new thread and Ill join you there!

Well it's 10am on Sunday, so can only assume the fuel arrived from Turkey in time. However, it's Mother Day and there's still time to shut us all down for Mothers Day lunch!!
