The South have voted not to the tax on savings by, 36 votes against with 19 abstaining.

It is effectively a rejection of the bailout package, that is not good news. As for the tax it is a big chunk that has to be found elsewhere so why should it come from tax payers in other EU countries?

With hindsight it's just as well the Annan plan wasn't accepted !!Nice to see the good people of the south get some pain . They have caused enough for the Turks for years.

It was said in 2004 when they voted no......they will get there come uppance, appears to be starting.

Looks like they are being held to ransom now Germany are saying the banks in Cyprus may never open again if the plan of the bail out is not agreed.

Dance with the Devil and you pay for the tune, didnt see them complaining when they were able to get a good rate of intrest, hide away money from the own country's tax people,indulge money laundering etc.
Sympathy I have, but certainly not for all.

Trouble with that is-will they settle for just the south.There is a lot of Russian money in the north.
Perhaps Turkey would be interested in a deal to cut their overheads?
