Advice re renewal of road tax when crossing border to South

Advice required please - my father has had the road tax required to cross the border into the South for many years and has never had a problem renewing it until now.
A couple of weeks ago when it expired he attempted to renew it and found he did not have his UK driving license on him, only his TRNC driving license. The road tax office at the border would not accept his TRNC license.
It has now transpired that his UK license has been lost and so he is therefore unable to present it to get the road tax renewal.
My father is named on the log book of the car - can another family member with a UK license renew the road tax on his behalf. Both my mum and I have our UK licenses and although we are not named on the log book, we are both named on the South side insurance.
Many thanks

Strictly speaking it has to be your father who renews the 'Road Tax' but why don't you try it, sometimes they do not bother to look at things properly. Worse case scenario you will have to turn back.
I think you have to pay around 200 TL to put another name onto a TRNC registration document which is another option.

They haven't accepted TRNC driving licences from ex-pats for some years now.
I get the police certificate in my name but that means the car is covered and my husband also drives it.
Worth pointing out again that the photo on your driving licence only runs for ten years and even though your licence is valid for longer you will not get the police certificate if your photo is out of date.

Unfortunately you cannot get a UK driving licence on line this is a scam set up by a private company as we have found out to our cost! They charge £30 to send you a printed form which you then have to send to DVLC with the actual fee of £20 - beware!

What happens then if you no longer have a home in the UK. I assume you can no longer get a UK licence.

I renewed mine on line last year from the DVLR website. I used my daughters address and it was £20 I think.

No home in the UK, means you cannot get a UK licence which means you cannot drive in the south?
Easily resolved, use the address of a relative.

Mmmm! Cyprusishome yes we all do that and blithely ignore the declaration which states that you must be a UK resident and any untrue answers are fraudulent and punishable by a hefty fine!
One day perhaps we might get caught..............................
Until then....................
Ozonkoys yes we discovered that too

I lived with my daughter before coming here and would go back there if I left Cyprus so technically it is my home. My bank accounts are registered there too.

Sorry to correct you cyprusishome but I recently renewed my licence, and have no UK address, having been here for 5 years. Yes, you are supposed to swap your UK licence for the country in which you are resident (NC), however as NC licences are not recognised in the South they will reissue / renew a Uk driving licence when you correspond directly with them using the standard paper form brought out from the UK.The Licencing office treat NC as a special case, and no it is not publicised anywhere until you ask them for help. The address on the licence is not necessarily your home address, it is a mailing address so the authorities can get hold of you. The only proof needed is that it physically exists and will accept post. I use my son-in-law's.
