Loving foster home required asap for a 2-3 year old Doberman – male and castrated and a perfect example of the breed. He was run over by a vehicle and taken to vet with suspected broken legs and other minor injuries. However Xray showed legs OK but he has chipped vertebrae. Consultant in Turkey says it will heal itself in time. Dog is on painkillers only (which, if necessary, KAR will supply).
He needs to be fostered on his own (or with a very old undemanding dog) for about 3 months as he cannot cope with other dogs bothering him and only stands and walks to do his “business”. He whimpers when he stands up and tries to walk. KAR would arrange for him to be delivered to a suitable foster home – an outside garage or largish garden shed would be ideal as long as he was given plenty of soft bedding and he cannot manage steps. In other words it isn’t essential that he be housed.
He is loving and very docile and is obviously appreciative of what people are doing for him but at the moment he is in the Vet room at the KAR centre, which is too noisy and “busy” for him to rest. He is a magnificent animal and deserves help and loving care from someone away from the rough and tumble of the dog centre. Good luck with this Sophie, if you still havent found somewhere in the next 2 or 3 weeks I might be able to help out, the place where I would keep him is currently being used to nurse a cat that is missing a lot of its throat, its too bad to have stitches so its a case of putting creams on it to promote new skin growth, which will take a time.

He is now called Duke, a perfect name for him. I'm taking some left over Baklavar up to him tomorrow to cheer him up. Most dogs love honey I think.

I haven't been up to see Duke this week (too busy with Lapta Dog Show this Sunday) However, I did go and take the Baklava and ascertained that he does love honey. He actually stood up unaided but with the odd whimper to walk two or three steps to take it from my hand, he then licked the container clean. Provided othing untoward happens he should make a full recovery, it will be a slowly, slowly process, but as there is nothing broken then he should make it. It would still be wonderful to let him heal in a more peacefull habitat for the next two months or so, although if he isn't homed then he will eventually be locked up in a pound with other dogs. He's obviously as soft as putty and loved being stroked and having a hug.

bigbadbob. I spoke to the Manageress of the Centre this morning and it's great news re Duke. During the last 4 days he's made marvellous strides (literally) and off his pain killers, which he couldn't take in any case for more than 14 days because of possible damage to his kidneys. The next step is to build him up a bit, then put in a compound with only a few other dogs and try and find a good home for him. Everyone at the Centre remarks on how "gentle" he is and doesn't seem to bare any grudges towards "people" as a result of what he's been through. Thank you for being interested.
