Try a butchers, or even a local farm.
I must say I've bought chicken from Lemars and it does taste gorgeous.
Maybe that is me comparing it to UK's supermarket chickens though...

I'm always on the look out for corn fed chickens - they're in a class by themselves, but never seen any here, or down South on the very rare occasion we've shopped there.

Agree with you Sophie, corn fed are absolutely the best. However, haven't seen any since leaving the UK years ago.

Your best bet would be to find someone in a village location who rear their own birds for the table. Haci Ali used to supply day old chicks a few years ago but this seems to have dried up as people have become accustomed to factory farm produce birds. Unfortunately I can't help with anyone who still does this. These birds end up about 3-4 kilos and are very tasty.

mall numbers, I
Kirni chicken farm do not use the battery style to rear there chickens.
They are in large air conditioned sheds were they run around the floor, they also do not use growth hormones.
Most of the chickens produced are exported to the U.R.E and Saudi.
If you visit one of there shops and ask, I think you may find they produce them in small numbers, I have seen them but do not remember which shop.

I asked the same question some time ago on the Cyprus 44 forum as my wife refused to buy any "battery" chickens. A nice English lady gave us the advice to try the pork butcher (shop) in Karaoglanoglu/Alsancak (coming from Girne the shop is appr. 100 m after the Deniz Kizi Hotel, right side). Since then we are buying our chickens there, fresh and very good quality "free range" chickens. You, however, normally have to order before. Tel. No. is 0533 8416788.
