Good evening, my name is Shadow, I am a cat and my mum is typing this on my behalf. We are due to arrive in Cyprus at the end of this year, coming over from Saudi flying from Bahrain. Could anybody who has recently done the trip to TRNC via Larnaca please let us know what the current situation is regarding paperwork to come into the country, length of quarantine and what on earth will happen to me when I land in Larnaca. Heard that I'll end up on the baggage conveyor belt, a boy can get dizzy trying to find his mum - that does not appeal. Do I get to meet up with my mum before the vet person sees me, am a little anxious and mum is not going to be use to either man nor beast on the day - she'll need the Valium before we set off!! Any and all useful information will be very much appreciated. Many thanks Shadow and his mum

I brought my cat and dog from Qatar, so we went through Bahrain to Larnaca, we used a lady called Ann Bosley to help us, also our vet in Qatar did the paperwork from that side. Make sure that your rabies blood test is done, that check can take a month for the blood test result to come back, you then have a certain time to travel. Some airlines will let you take your cat on board depending on weight and carrier size. Both of mine were put in the hold and flew the same day as us, they were collected by Ann at LCA and she saw to the paper work and the checks from this side. She will send you the paperwork for you to complete via email, you take it to your vet and the ball will start rolling. We had no problems whatsoever, no red tape, just two happy healthy pets when we arrived. Ann works for KAR, she used to do this service on her own, but I believe she has now incorporated with her work for KAR.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful. The KAR website looks very informative so I'll need to sit down and read it when not being pestered by Shadow! I told my vet here in Saudi that I want to leave at the end of the year and he has arranged to take the bloods for his rabies in May, said we couldn't travel until at least August and that December would be fine. I shall have to make sure I get all the necessary bits in order well in advance, to minimize any chance of hiccups. Glad to hear of folk coming through Larnaca via Bahrain without much hassle, that's a help. I may well be in touch with the lady mentioned to see what her services are and have somebody at the other end to help ease the way. Shadow is a very nervy little fella and this is going to be a big challenge for him but we'll get there I'm sure. Looking forward to setting up in Cyprus and finally making the move. Thanks again for the info.

Not sure what the requirements are coming from another country but I have just brought 2 cats from the UK last week. KAR were excellent, can't thank them enough and did all the necessary paperwork for me for importing them into the TRNC. Strongly recommend them to take all the headaches out of the importation.

Once the blood test has been done and it is negative, this form will allow you to enter the TRNC .
If you wish to leave the TRNC with your pet, then you will need to have the rabis jab done before leaving, this will take two months, one injection each month.
On your return the blood test form will allow you to re enter the TRNC with out any quarantine.
The blood test papers will last for ever with regards to your pet.
Crossing to the other side I have no info but I am sure our friends at KAR will be able to arrange this.

Had a read of the KAR website, very informative and it actually looks as though getting the lad here might just be easier than I anticipated - from the Cyprus side at least, paperwork et al from Saudi is another matter, they do love their forms....
KAR will definitely be hearing from me nearer the time to move. Thanks again for all your information and help folks, very glad I found this forum. No doubt nearer the time I'll be on more with lots more questions and anything and everything!

Can I just clarify the situation with KAR and their Pet Transportation dept. The Email to contact this department on is karpettravel@gmail.com which is headed up by Kim on 0533 869 4098. She is the real expert on all pet travel queries - regardless of whereabouts it is in the world. Ann Bosley is a member of the Executive Committee of KAR. It may look easy to transport animals in and out of the TRNC, however one tick in the wrong box or the container not being the exact size for the air line in question and things can go wrong very fast. I really would advise you to contact the experts. Hope this helps.

Thanks to you all for your advice and information, it has been very useful. I have contacted the relevant parties and so we'll take it from there. No doubt I'll be on later with lots more questions about all manner of things related to moving to and living in Cyprus but for now getting Shadow sorted is the priority. He takes more effort and paperwork to get out of here than I do. Cheers!
