Planting Fruit Trees

Is it still possible to plant fruit trees this month or will I have to wait until Autumn

Still OK, the roots will now take quickly with the soil still being damp and warm but not too hot. You will have to keep them well watered from next month onwards, needless to say.

Dig the hole at least 1 ft deeper than the root ball and back fill it with a mixture of 50% peat (or similar) and soil. This will leave nice soft ground for the roots to go down and also retain a deep layer of moisture. Another good idea is to cut the base from a 2.5 ltr Pepsi bottle, drill a smallish hole in the cap and plant this alongside the tree. When you water you can top this up and it will drip water down to the roots/ peat layer ensuring the tree doesn't dry out if for some reason you miss a few days. Once the tree is well established you can remove the bottle and fill the hole with soil.
