Why should I pay more for something that was a recognised by Turkey in the first instance, moreover that would just about kill off the property market. All in all a daft idea, I cannot see the Greek side offering a similar deal for an identical situation in the South.BrightonJim wrote:It does appear that decisions and attitudes are moving TRNC's way.
I share the concern about Turkey's ongoing commitment expressed by Cyprusishome.
I do think that if the property issue is settled and we get internationally recognised title with the resultant increase in property values, it would be unreasonable to expect the Turkish taxpayer to foot the entire bill.
Perhaps TRNC property owners should be prepared to contribute towards the compensation payments made to former GC owners; it seems a very good deal to me, we pay say 10% of value and the property doubles in price.
Trust me you will pay in the long term, the idiots, aka TRNC government will make expats pay, they don't like expats from anywhere, that includes the Turk mainlanders, in fact they are hated, totally ungrateful people for what the Turks did in saving their backsides. If the Germans start holidaying in the North now because of the situation in the South, they will be their new bosom buddies until they stop spending.Jonnie wrote:I cannot see anyone being asked for anything. Firstly the amounts of money to the likes of us are huge but to Turkey they really are small, minuscule. Secondly there are plenty of TCs with re-sold exchange land so they are not going to have it and thirdly there are plenty of re-settled mainlanders they will not be allowed to suffer.
I feel more secure than ever these days.

They will be revaluated same as they are doing in the South, it will be a way of collecting a little bit of extra tax.ozonkoyboy wrote:I am reading a lot about paying 10 or 20% tax am I missing something
didn't we pay tax when we bought our properties, I know I did, so why pay anymore,

Jonnie I am not quoting you, just replying. Turkey is settling claims for sure but pay back will come, the properties will be re-evaluated and taxes will be placed on them, they will probably be repayable when the property is sold. You don't have to believe me, that is your choice but I got this info from a well informed person.Jonnie wrote:belle wrote:Trust me you will pay in the long term, the idiots, aka TRNC government will make expats pay, they don't like expats from anywhere, that includes the Turk mainlanders, in fact they are hated, totally ungrateful people for what the Turks did in saving their backsides. Belle, I am referring to Turkey settling claims through the IPC, if you want to make general, sweeping rhetoric its fine by me just don't quote me in it.
