My Daughter and Son in law went back to the uk yesterday from Larnaca, at the border (Greek side) they were asked if they had any ciggys and said yes 200, and were told they were only allowed 40 but as they were honest they could keep the 200.I thought that you were allowed 200 cigs 1ltr of spirits to take back. Any Ideas on what we are legally allowed to take back to the uk.

If you purchased them at Larnaca airport can take what you like as EU to EU, just the Greeks getting petty as cigarettes are cheaper to purchase here than over there. They say just two packets and do not normally allow booze.

EU Green Line regulations specify only 40 cigs per person per day allowed.

As i understand it ( I am a non smoker though) you are allowed to take back what is classed as personal consumption,
there is usually a sign telling you your legal allowance, my friend comes out regular and fly's from larnaca and always brings back a Box of 1200 cigarettes I have also notice the last time we were out and flew with monarch airlines, the air stewards came down the isles with boxes containing 1200 cigarettes

If you buy the stuff in the South for your own consumption, and fly from Larnaca, then there is no set limit.
If you buy it in the North, and fly from Ercan, it's the usual 200 fags, litre of spirits, & perfume & etceteras not exceeding whatever the current value is.
If you want to take it from the North to the South - i.e. you're buying it in the North, but travelling to the South to fly from Larnaca, then it's 40 fags (or less if they're having a bad day at the Green Line checkpoint ) and I'm not sure what the drinks allowance is.
I have taken a dozen Efes to the South, but that was crossing into the British Sovereign Base area, so it's different.

We had the same problem last friday crossing from north to south heading to Larnaca. We had 200 cigarettes, but seeing that there was 5 of us we split them among us so had 40 each, but when we were ask,ed by the security guard the usual questions, i,e. have you got more than 40 cigarettes etc we all replied no.Well I dont know if we looked a bit iffy or what, but the guard was not convinced, and for the first time ever all our luggage was removed from the taxi and searched thoroughly, obviously there was nothing declare, but it just go,es to show just because you,ve have never been searched before dont get complacent.
