If you go to the BRS website it will tell you what you need. Also British Legion website if you are a member. Much simpler process now - no longer any need to go to the Police Station after the first time. Also Lefkosia Office is a lot more organised. Check on the stamp value needed as that did increase sometime this year

Don't you have to go to the police station if you are under 60?

Under 60s still have to go to Police Station and get blood test and x ray. Blood test waived if you are blood donor, who has given 3 times in the past year, with the last donation within 1 month of residency, so you will need to take your donation card with you to police station and photocopies and then get results of last blood donation from Lefkosa hospital to take to Immigration office when you go. Over 60s just go straight to Lefkosa immigration.

We did our residency at the end of April. We are over 60 and it was not our first time. We took copies of passport, copy of house contract, letter from Muhktar, 9TL stamp. We took this for each of us straight to Lefkoşa. İf you are under 60 the process is different.

This blood test situation for the under 60's is a complete farce and has done more damage than good to the T.R.N.C economy and should be scrapped it's a humiliating money making con.

Why not start a petition, maybe BRS can help here - I too believe it is wrong, but do not know the full in and outs.

When going to Lefkosia do they not want to see a bank statement any more?

reference message 8, I have heard students do not require blood tests therefore if this is true I totally agree with you its a farce, some of these people come from a country where the population is highly contaminated with AIDS. I do feel it is an insult as I have been with my partner since I was 21 and in 4 years time he doesn't have to have one but I will for another 9. If connected with my job I would understand.

As the BRS does try to tlak to the government on many of the issues that cause confusion etc, why not share with them how you feel. I know that ann Challis reads this forum so she is probably aware of the strong feelings. Put a good case to BRS so they can discuss it with the government. Having said tha,t this is maybe not the best time to tlak to the non-existent government. so I reckon everything goes on hold until after end of July.

I'm over 60, so not subject to blood testing/XRay for residency and, therefore, have no axe to grind. However, what is the purpose of these annual tests for U60s? I have heard it's to test for TB, anti-social diseases et al. Can anybody explain the medical screening rationale behind this decision please? Perhaps then, the BRS can take this matter up with an informed, accurate medically-supported view to refute the current government position applicable to expats. Checking on-line reveals that annual XRay for TB screening is not recommended unless you are exposed to high risk situations!!

X rays on a regular basis are most definitely not good, too much radiation!!!

I have been told there is no need for residency for over 60's anymore?

Unfortunately that has never been confirmed in writing, and while many over 60's do not do residency, no one has actually confirmed that without their residency they have left the country and come back without any problems.

Over 60;s are recommended to take up residency as this saves a lot of hastle when doing anything involving officialdom i.e. driving licence application etc. Trevor Hughes made this point a few months ago in the Newsround

There were a lot of issues raised above - and I assure you most of them are on our agenda! We have been attempting to get a meeting at the Health Ministry since April - and now there is no chance til there is a new govrnment, and possibly all new ministers to cope with!
Re residency for over 60's the BRS has always said it is ones own decision as to whether to continue to pay or not - but I have heard very recently that one elderly couple trying to leave the country were done for a few years back residencies before being allowed to go - whther this is true of not I do not know, but it came from a reliable source. We have tried to get some sort of letter from the government to confirm this "handshake" situation, but say on our web site that this is not "legal" it is just being allowed (usually) but this does not mean it will always be allowed! Play safe, get it, is always what I say if asked. We do.
Re blood tests for under 60's this has been on our "work to do" file since last year - but as above - although our representatives have had appointments re this and sat waiting for quite a while at the office to be told that the Minister/1st secretary would not be in after all.
We do our best!

If it really is true that some Students are not being required to have tests, then it does make a mockery of the whole system. As snd1966 mentions, an anwful lot of the students here come from African countries where AIDS in particular, is rife,

We are due to renew our residency soon and having checked BRS website for update see that (for over 60's) at Lefkosa you now have to fill in an 'Application Form'. As we are not BRS members so unable to view a copy of said form on their website can anyone tell me what information is asked for. Many thanks.

1.Muhtars letter to confirm your residency (Ensure that any change of address is made on this letter)
2.Passport
3.Blue or Pink Residency registration card
4.Copy of Bank Statement to confirm your income ( Internet print-out is acceptable )
The only addition to this requirement is a change of address since your last renewal. If that is the case a copy of your house contract, kocan or rental agreement, with the new address, if appropriate, will have to be shown.
In addition, you will complete a residency application form. A blank application form and a completed example is available to members under "Forms" on the members section of the BRS website. Complete the form and hand in unsigned. You will make your payment to the cashier and will obtain the residency stamp in your passport. You will still have the option of one or two year’s renewal.
Plus 9TL government stamp available for 10TL from the café in Immigration Building, Lefkosa.

The rationale behind testing is, I suspect purely a money making exercise

Hi Tomsteel
Thanks for your reply most of which I was familiar with however the bit I do not know about is this paragraph.
In addition, you will complete a residency application form. A blank application form and a completed example is available to members under "Forms" on the members section of the BRS website.
As I stated on my original post, we are not BRS members so not able to see form hence my query.

Don't worry about it Boelboel, you don't need to have the one from the BRS website as they have piles of them by each booth in the Residency office. We were gobsmacked to find that, despite having filled in the one downloaded from the BRS website, the nasty little "jobsworth" we were faced with refused to accept it "because it isn't in proper black and white print". For some reason or other our printer had changed it VERY, VERY slightly to a sort of brown!!! On top of that, I refused to let them see a bank statement and told her it was nothing whatsoever to do with her. After a bit of shouting through closed doors and from one end of the room to the other, she said "sorry" and carried on. It isn't their business.

Fear not everyone "the government" will soon be making the "buying or selling of real estate by foreigners will be made easier, simpler and quicker" so you can come and spend 100's of thousands of pounds (as I have) and they "the government" and the nasty little job worths will make it near impossible for you to come and visit your investment ? ? sounds so good don't you think !
