Hi,
i wonder if anyone knows if there is an insurance company in the North which can insure cars for both North and South sides, just to save driving to the border to get insurance ? maybe online ? Also ,i think i read somewhere that vehicles over 3,500 kgs gross weight are not allowed across the border to the south, but southern vans over this weight can travel to the North, can anyone please confirm this, many thanks in advance, Tony s

Many insurance companies in the north will insure as part of their "fully comprehensive" policies but at additional cost. So you would need to weigh up the additional cost against the number of times you will be crossing.

Not having tested this, as far as I am aware you still have to purchase the third party cover at crossing.

Hi,

Our insurance is fully comprehensive and covers north & south but we still have to buy the third party insurance at the border, we don't know why. A friend of mine has purchased insurance for the south from an insurance office in Famagusta, it is in the main street leading down to Othellos tower, the road with the patisserie and cafe at the bottom. I know it was 80 euros for the year, I suppose it is worth it if you travel to the south a lot.
