This morning in Ozankoy I received a visit from no less than 4 Girne Belediye "workers"They had come to spray for Cockroaches. One had a clipboard another a hand spray and I presume the other two were their minders.I declined their offer as I have had the house for 13 years and only seen two cockroaches in all that time! No wonder the the country is in the state it is in,with over staffing and under working such as this!.

We had 2 in Alsancak. In Uk there would have to be method statements to show how the trigger on sprayer is going to be pulled & at what angle!!TRNC are learning fast.

Don't forget the risk assessment! We are holding our local festival this weekend and each stallholder has to give their own plan along with their application to the local council.

I remember the first time I opened the door to them all standing there - the usual clipboard chap with minder, another with a syringe in hand and a 4th with a back pack of what looked like oxygen cylinders strapped onto him ! I truly thought 'ghost busters' had arrived for real in Alsancak!

They have a better system in Lapta, they only send two or three men. When they arrive, the tap lightly on the door, so no one can hear them, then they leave a flyer about pests and go merrily on their way. No thought of returning or checking that anyone is actually in the house or the garden.

I have to laugh at these comments, as last week we went to Esentepe Coucil offices after seeing some cockroaches in a neighbouring property which is empty, only to be told they don't come out any more through lack of funds. We have had to pay a pest contol company to deal with it, so I would stop complaining and think yourselves lucky you get a free service as not everyone does.

I had my annual visit today(Ozankoy)-4 very polite young men (I say men-the oldest looked about 14)came round to do my drains.
One had a clipboard, one had a spray bottle containing an indeterminate substance that could well have been water-previously they were equipped with quite sophisticated looking guns with vials of liquid,,the other two,I can only assume were trainees of some sort.

All in all 4 people doing the job of one as far as I could see.

On the plus side,I paid 7 times the council tax in the UK to what I pay here and no one ever came round from the council for anything other than to b*****k me for leaving one of my wheely bins 2 centimetres from it's permitted collection place for my fortnightly rubbish collection.

I get two collections a week here.

Well said Philoz.

Most of these young people are students, working during their hols.

They look and learn about what services the belideye provide, how these services are carried out and public relations, ie how to behave when dealing with the public.

The four that came to my place were smartly dressed, and very polite, I, in return, politely thanked them.
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

We had our visitation in Alsancak on Monday (2 chaps about 19, possibily students making a few bob?). We invited them in and before we could offer, they asked for water (no problem there) so I filled two large glasses of water from the cooler. Unfortunately I hadn't realised my husband had turned it off during the night because of the vibration noise it was making. They both took a slug of water, put their glasses down and said "it is not cold enough". They sprayed 4 hingers to doors under the kitchen sink and left. No question of drain covers etc. Not sure how much that will cost us on our water bill.
