monday our card was refused and we were told to contact ur bank. A friend told us they had the same but got their money on Tuesday. Weds we tried again, and same message,plus one that says something is wrong with our chip (whatever that means). I am wondering if there is a fault in the system or whether we have the horrendous job of trying to contact the bank and sort it out. always murder from overseas.

So I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Yes today Thursday, I drew cash from an ATM at 7.45am and at 8.30 first my credit card was refused but my debit card was still OK and at 8.50 neither card was accepted, so had to use cash.

We had the same when we used the ATM at Lemar Karakum and also ended up getting a replacement sent from the UK. Several ATMs said the chip had been corrupted but for some reason our bank didn't think it possible, after a bit of arguing they agreed to send a new one thankfully!

Thanks so much everyone. Thhat is a great help to know that we are not alone! It is interesting that no explanaiton is given as to why suddenly the cards, yours mine and no doubt others who have not written here, are suddenly a problem. How could this be? Affected by sunlight, or affectedby a machine. But I think it takes two to three weeks to gget a new one. What a nuisance. Is there any other way round this, other than drawing cash from a savings account ? I guess not!

also did you (those who got new cards) have to phone U.K or were you able to deal with it another way, say through internet?

My husband is hanging his head in shame as he owes a local restaurant money from last week when their cash card was not working, and now he can't pay that bill. We shop using a credit card, which is not a problem, but it is the cash card that is mucking things up.

But thanks again for sharing that this has happened to others.
