In a small ceremony today attended by the general managers of Turkey's TRT and TRNC's BRT, and by Turkey's deputy prime minister Beşir Atalay, they signed an agreement whereby the Turkish government will give 2 million euros to BRT and that there will be closer collaboration between the two broadcasters.

TRT's general manager, İbrahim Şahin, said it would also provide training for BRT personnel. BRT's general manager, Mete Tümerkan, said the financial support would help modernise their studios.

Some TCs have already said that such financial support will give Ankara an even bigger say into how the news etc is put across here. However, some others would say that, seeing as Ankara has been financially supporting the TRNC for years, it won't really affect things.

I very much doubt that paying bills is a priority for the BRT general manager Mete Tumerkan.

Ibraham Sahin, said ''financial support would provide training for the BRT personnel'', hint hint.

Mete cannot take a hint and obviously thinks they are doing it right as his priority is to ''modernise the studios''.

Hi Blue Butterfly,
I now understand that elsewhere you are known as Karabina In any case, I need to post the same message here

That's not actually written, but I agree that what I did write is not clear - I should have written that "in addition to the financial support, TRT's general manager, Ibraham Şahin, said that TRT would provide training for the BRT personnel."

Furthermore I have to admit both Şahin and Tümerkan made comments other than the ones I gave in post 1, namely Şahin also said how the money would be used to modernise the studios ... and Tümerkan also commented on the training opportunities for his personnel.

As you can appreciate, I didn't want to translate the whole report, but it would appear that my efforts have somewhat misled you

I'll get me coat ...
