My Turkish Cypriot friend promised to find out about my permit gas tank for me.This was about 3 weeks ago.Yesterday he arrived, with back dated permits from 2005 and the current one.I believe he went to see the District Commissioner. Now I am 880 tl lighter,but legal. My friend asked how they were going to police this matter and the first step is when requesting a gas delivery NO PERMIT,NO GAS.
Bearing in mind they have already contacted the gas suppliers Jet Gaz,Inter Gaz etc for a list of their customers.so anyone still thinking about it,do it before the Winter when you need the fuel.

So the gas suppliers will NOT supply any gas unless you have a permit, correct, and how much business will they lose until the penny drops, 880 Tl buys a lot of logs for my log burner and electric for halogen heaters. so why buy LPG gas?

How will that work in a rental property I wonder? Whose responsibility is it to pay for the permit, the owner or the renter?

Smiler. As the tank belongs with the property I would think it is the owner's responsibility. I for one would not be too happy to have paid a large bill and then have to leave the property for unexpected reasons, leaving the owner and next renter laughing all the way to the bank!!!!!

Apparently it is the owners responsibility.Maybe that is something that should be pointed out to anyone going to rent a house with a gas tank.Wood is ok for burners etc,but not a lot of use for gas central heating!Why do the gas suppliers not advise their customers at installation time,that an Annual permit is required,I have not yet anyone who new about this until Trevor Hughes highlighted it in his articles.

So who do we contact about getting a permit?

I believe my friend went to the District Commissioner's office( Kaymak something).new white building on the right hand side,set back off the road, before the hospital going into Girne. good luck.

Very True. But as I have gas central heating AND a Wood burner I can make a choice !!

It sounds as if they are serious about catching up with everyone who has missed this particular piece of bureaucracy, whether you intend to purchase gas or not. Gas is expensive enough as it is, without the added cost of an annual permit so I guess many will be reclaiming the deposit paid to the gas company for the tank. I paid 1,000 tl deposit for mine.

The annual permit is only about 37 tl.not too bad but the fine is back dated at compound interest,from the installation date.These permits apply to ANY tanks,oil, disel etc.

Can someone tell me what is currently required for this apart from the fire extinguisher which has already been covered on the forum. I was told by the person who phoned that I would be able to get my next delivery but after that would need a permit

We must have caught them on a good day then because they gave us the permit without the fine backdated or otherwise! We have had our tank since 2007.

There are two companies. Intergaz and Jetgaz.

Say you have had gas from Intergaz. Give back your tank, get a refund on your original deposit.

Now call Jetgaz and ask for a brand new installation. Pay the deposit. Apply for the permit. No back interest with penalties.

If you do this and it works, please donate 4 bottles of Hoegaarden to my collection!

Jetgaz delivering tomorrow, will be interesting to see if they ask for my permit (if I am at home)If not they usually leave the bill in the gate!

You implied you obtained your permit straight away, but I was advised at the office it would take at least 4 months from submission of application......am I missing something here?

Had a gas tank for about 5 years, never knew about permit then after 3 yrs letter came and we paid for the previous years and now pay yearly.

CJtill it took about two weeks after the paperwork went in to get the permit. But as soon as they saw the paperwork we had the verbal confirmation that we would get the permit.

We've been here for 6 years and have now received notification that we need a gas permit, can anyone please tell me what paperwork is required to get this. I presume it to be Kocan or rental agreement, copy of passport, blood group, mother and fathers birth certificates, dental records etc, etc etc.

When I went to see about ours, we were told that we couldn't have a permit till the house is on the kocan ..
10 years later we are sill trying ..

Got ours without the house being on the Kocan after a discussion about it being there regardless of the house being on the Kocan.
Have to say we have never been asked about a permit when we have ordered gas though

We applied for ours after we found out, after being here 5 years that we needed one! Applied in January this year. Needed copy of Kocan copy of the gas tank deposit note, copy of receipt for fire extinguisher which we got from Lefkosa, copy of site plan with official stamp, and of course the application form to allow storage of fuel on the property ( you also need a permit for storage of oil apparently) all needed 5 copies! Fireman visited and checked where the tank was late January and said 2 weeks.........no sign of it over 2 months later!! Hmmmmm

All of the relevant documents were sent to the FIre Department and two weeks later my tank was inspected by a fire officer.

Result-the position of the tank was deemed to be illegal even though it was installed by Intergaz 7 years ago.I now at my cost have to move the tank to a safer position and gues what I will also be fined around 1000lira for not having a permit .

Be careful what you wish for folks!

Would you be kind enough to let us know what was illegal about the location? Also, what size tank do you have?

Unless you have central heating on for 4 hours plus per day, why not give back your tank and get a 45kg / 100lt bottle. If you need more, get 2, Or 3. I appreciate it may be an inconvenience, but it will save on moving the tank and paying the fine.

I believe there is no requirement for a permit for these bottles. It is probably because in the main, Yabanci's use tanks and Locals use bottles! Maybe the gas inside will not explode/leak if used by a local!

We have a 1000lira tank which we need to supply the central heating system.(It's quite a large Villa ).

The fire officer has refused the permit because the gas tank is sited near the road .I informed him that Intergaz had installed the tank and he said" they got it wrong".

He's now suggesting we change the tank to 500 litres and we can KEEP IT IN THE SAME PLACE.

The White Flag has bern raised.

Harita, we had a delivery of gas last month, tank was filled with no questions asked. A couple of days ago I checked my PO Box and there was a form in there from the District Office informing us that we need a permit, the strange thing is that the form, which had been posted in Girne to my home address, was in my PO box but didn't have the box number on it, so how long it's been there is anybodys' guess.

Gates not quite sure what you mean as Art clearly states that Intergas fitted the tank and they are a reputable company as far as I know, from personal experience.

We have put in many and bases for the tanks and waited and passed but the 2 Co involved as we are a regestered Co and have dealt with the permits that should be applied for in certain areas
Unfortunately some people land and lets get a gas central heating in now
unaware that heat rises and it is no good apart from the upper rooms
There i imagine they are still in flight

Would you please explain what you're trying to say, our tank was installed by Intergaz not some Cypriot cowboy.

We got all the paperwork ready and collected our fire extinguisher yesterday, complete with receipts, off to District office on Monday with great hopes of getting the said permit for our gas tank. It would be interesting if my TC policeman next door neighbour was in there collecting his, after all he had a gas delivery a couple of days before us so surely he would have been notified also that he needs a permit too.
